Sammy Awuku is optimistic the government of Ghana will fly supporters and faithful of the New Patriotic (NPP) to Russia should Ghana book their ticket to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars are struggling to make headways in group E of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, lying third and are trailing Uganda three points and Egypt the group leaders by five points, after two games.
However, Sammy Awuku who is hopeful the Black Stars will fight back and reclaim the top spot in the group and qualify for the Mundial for a fourth consecutive time has stated that the ruling NPP government will send their party member and sympathisers to Russia in a retaliation for what the opposition NDC did during the 2014 FIFA Worl Cup when they were in power.
“It is time for us as party to take care of our party people. When the NDC took their supporters to South Africa for the world cup in 2010, we didn’t complain, when they took their supporters to Equatorial Guinea, we didn’t complain, when they took them to Brazil, we didn’t complain, as for Russian, it is our time, they shouldn’t complain.
It would be recalled that prior to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil Joseph Yamin, who was the deputy Youth and Sports Minister made an emphatic statement that the 500 supporters who were going to be flown to Brazil should be grass root supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress [NDC].
