Police in the Brong Ahafo Region have dispelled claims that the police may be losing its grip on the region following two dreadful crimes committed within a week.

"Brong Ahafo is calm" Deputy Brong Ahafo regional police commander ACP Patrick Adusei Sarpong told Pulse.com.gh.

The region has been in the news since last week after five people were shot and killed in Tuobodom, in what is suspected to be connected to a protracted chieftaincy dispute in Tuobodom. Seven people have since been arrested by the police.

The Tuobodom crime was closely followed by a decision of the B/A police to evacuate all of its personnel from Kwapong a village in the region after an angry mob stormed the police station and forcibly set ablaze a fetish priest who was in police custody for stabbing to death an indigene of the town.

ACP Adusei Sarpong told Pulse.com.gh until the residents build a new police station the village will continue to be without police personnel.

"Police will be sent back to the town.  But not until thing are brought under control and the station is refurbished." He said.

The Brong Ahafo region is one of regions with the lowest crime rates.

In 2014 the cases of crime reported reduced by 17 per cent.  The region also saw a 73 per cent drop in armed robbery cases, 37 per cent reduction in murder cases, 30 per cent drop in fraud cases and 17 per cent drop in theft cases.

The police said the region has been largely peaceful but for these incidents.

The police are relying on one of the leaders of the mob who is under police guard at the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds, to reveal the identities and the whereabouts of the rest of the mob in the Kwapong incident.

ACP Adusei Sarpong said the incidents in Tuobodom and Kwapong are isolated incidents and the region is still calm.

"There are so many towns and districts, here but these two districts have recorded this case. So Brong Ahafo has not become unsafe." He said.
