The Greater Accra chapter of the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) has said it will stop paying and filling its tax returns by end of October this year if the government does not intervene and prevent foreigners from competing in business with Ghanaians.
According to the traders, the foreign nationals are breaching stipulations of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) legislation which excludes them from engaging in retail business.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the General Secretary of the Union, Samuel Poku said: “GUTA Greater Accra Region is ever ready to defend its position, reason being that traders will not pay taxes and we mean it.”
“They shouldn’t underestimate us, we mean what we say so if policymakers are listening, there is a serious thing looming and if they have ears they should sit up now.
“Traders will not pay taxes if foreigners continue their unlawful trading activities in our various markets which the laws of the land prohibit,” he added.
