Michael Essien has sealed a bumper deal with German sportswear giants, Adidas worth $500,000 and was afterwards selected to be on a panel to to preside over a street freestyle soccer event in Jakarta.
Essien’s relationship with Adidas date back to his days at Chelsea when he became an ambassador of the second largest sports brand in the world.
His new deal is expected to boost the image and popularity of Adidas in Indonesia.
Michael Essien is the most expensive player in the Indonesian league, after he signed a one-year deal with Persib Bandung in January with an option of another year.
Essien has featured for seven clubs abroad since leaving Liberty Professionals in 1999, namely Brescia, Lyon, Chelsea, Real Madrid, AC Milan, Panathinaikos and Persib Bandung, which is his first club outside Europe.
He has made 58 appearances in the shirt of the Black Stars in a thrilling national team career that has seen him play in two different FIFA World Cups.
