Anti-galamsey task force arrest first female illegal miner

The anti-galamsey taskforce, Operation Vanguard has arrested a female illegal miner at Datano in the Amansie West District of the Ashanti region.

The 35-year-old, identified as Ama Frema was picked up on Saturday, August 12, 2017.

Frema said she hails from Obuasi in the Ashanti Region and illegal mining has been her trade all her life.

She has since been handed over to the Manso Nkwanta District Police Headquarters for processing for court.

The “Operation Vanguard” is made up of 400 security men from the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the Police Service.

The team has been divided into three groups to cover the Ashanti, Eastern and Western regions.

They have been asked to stay at their assigned regions until all forms of illegal mining have been stopped.
