Hearts of Oak leave it late to keep top spot with 1-0 win

Match report of the Ghana Premier League game between Hearts of Oak and Berekum Chelsea.

The Accra based club went into their game against Berekum Chelsea leading the league table by two points ahead of WAFA.

Sergio Tranguil’s team recorded a one nil victory courtesy Kwame Kizito as Hearts took all three points from Berekum Chelsea.

The Phobians started the game as the blighter side but they nearly got punished early in the game by Berekum Chelsea. Soulama Abdoulayr failed to handle Saddiq Adams' 25 yards free-kick but the Burkinabe import swept away Asiwome Fumador's rebound.

The away side outmatched the Phobians in the middle of the field as they won all the 50-50 balls  - keeping the home side's midfielders at bay.

In the 15 minute, the Phobians started fighting for every ball in the midfielder and they began to make some incursions into Berekum Chelsea's half which they were curtailed by Chelsea defenders.

Saddiq Adams' tormented Hearts of Oak defenders which he won three free-kicks around the home side's goal area but he fluffed those free-kick.

In the 40th minute, Patrick Razak tested the agility of John Moose with a powerful right foot drive, the Phobians kept the heat on the away side firing from all angles.

Four minutes later a solo move by Richard Oti opened up Hearts of Oak defence but his low shot was neatly saved by Soulama Abdoulaye.

From the recess, Berekum Chelsea piled pressure on the Phobians and Soulama Abdoulaye partied away Saddiq Adams' strike to corner but the resulted corner-kick was wasted by the away side.

John Moose once again made a brilliant save as he stretched to the full length to palm off Kassenu Ghandi's diagonal free-kick.

The tempo of the increased as both sides made some clean incursions but putting the ball at the back of the net was problematic.

The Phobians were denied an obvious penalty in the 70th minute as Patrick Razak was brought down by Eric Agyemang. The home side never got despaired as they piled more pressure on the visitors and second half substitute Kwame Kizito broke the deadlock in the 78th minute after John Moose failed to handle an aerial ball.

The away side then threw a lot of men upfront and Saddiq Adam again forced Soulama Abdoulaye to make another timely safe with his knee from a 20 yard free-kick. Berekum Chelsea intensified the pressure but the Phobians were resolute at the back.

Solomon Osei's side failed to grab the equaliser as Hearts of Oak won the game 1-0.
