Hearts of Oak, Aduana Stars fire blank in Accra

Match report of the Ghana Premier League game between Hearts of Oak and Aduana Stars.

Hearts of Oak started the game as the brighter side and they struck the far post from Sumudeen Ibrahim’s diagonal free-kick.  The Phobians pinned the away side to their own half with plenty of possession.

Aduana Stars mostly relied on counter-attacks but the home side’s defence were on guard to curtail their dangerous moves. The “Ogya Lads” started warming themselves into the game as they created their first chance in the game but Roben Gnagne saved the situation for his side.

The away side then found an antidote to the swift play of the Phobians as they dictated the pace of the game but Hearts of Oak were resolute at the back.

In the 28th minute, the Accra giants came close in getting the opener but Joseph Addo in post for the away side saved Samudeen’s header. Moments later Godfred Saka tested the agility of Soulama Abdoulaye with a 25 yard free-kick but the Burkinabe rose to the occasion.

The tempo of the game reduced drastically but the Dormaa based side was slightly on top.

On the stroke of half-time, the Phobians failed to score the first goal after Mustapha Essuman went past Joseph Addo but his cut back pass was cleared by Emmanuel Akuoko.

The second half was more heated as compare to the first half as both sides threw a lot of bodies upfront in search of the opener.

Hearts of Oak pinched the away side midfield which helped them to dictate the pace of the game - they bombarded the Dormaa based side with a lot of swift attacks but they lacked idea whenever they get to their opponent goal area.

Aduana Stars kept their composure but they were always second to th ball as the Phobians had a free day in the middle of the field. The away side were pushed back again and the Phobians created another chance but they failed to get the ball at the back of the net.

The closest the away side came, they had the Phobians’ defenders to contend with it. Nathaniel Asamoah who came on in the second half for Zakaria Mumuni was set up by Godfred Saka but he shot wide.

Second half substitute Samuel Yeboah on the 85 minute squandered an opportunity – the player with his back facing Aduana’s goal shot feebly into Joseph Addo’s hands.

The Phobians never gave up as they piled more pressure on the away side but they failed score from the chances they created as the game ended goalless.
