Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES) in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly in the East Akim district of the Eastern Region has issued a ban on the operation of jackpot outlets.
According to the GES it will also ensure that the licenses of the various betting companies within the municipality are withdrawn to safeguard the education of the youth and students who patronise it.
Pupils in the various basic schools within the municipality sneak out of school to play jackpot in view of the little monetary benefits they derive from it while others are said to have dropped out of school.
Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Simon Peter Asirifi announced that the assembly will get tough on operators who fail to comply at a recent meeting organised by the assembly.
“The Assembly cannot sit down and watch these things to go on due to its consequences on the quality of education,” he said.
