Today marks exactly 51 years (21/11/1965), since the Black Stars won the 1951 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Tunisia.

Pulse Sports can confirm that 13 of the 21 contingent that achieved that heroic feat against in Tunisia in Tunis are now among the dead.

Below is a list of the surviving members and where they currently reside.

Dodoo Ankrah

He was one of the few players who had the opportunity to win both the 1963 and 1965 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). During the 1965 AFCON, Ankrah was the short stopper for Real Republicans. The former Hearts of Oak goalie is currently resident in Accra.

John Naawu

Naawu was the goalkeeper of Accra Gt. Olympics at the time of the 1965 AFCON. His son John Naawu will also play for the Black Stars and was selected for the 1992 Africa Cup of Nations. He lives at Nungua in Accra.

Kofi Pare

Pare was a winger cum centre forward. He is the only player to score five goals in a single game for the Black Stars. He was also part of the 1963 as well as the 1965 AFCON winning teams. He is cuurently living at Abossey Okai in Accra

Frank Odoi   

The Accra Gt. Olympics centre forward was the show man in the 1965- He scored a brace including the championship winning goal in the 1965 AFCON.  Odoi is based in the USA

Ben Simmons 

Simmons was a utility player- was used in both midfield and defence. He started his career as Ben Simmons and later changed his name to Ben Acheampong. The former Real Republicans player had the chance to participate in both the 1963 and the 1965 Africa Cup of Nations. He lives in Kumasi.

Richard Baanie  

He was at the time of the 1965 AFCON a player of B.A United. Barnie was a defender, who was comfortable playing as a centre back, as well as a lateral defender. He is based in Sunyani.

Ganiyu Salami    

The centre forward was the only Hearts of Oka player who was part of the 1965 AFCON winning team. He was a Nigerian, who had the opportunity to play for the Black Stars and is currently living in Nigeria.

Osei Kofi 

The nimble footed was the orchestra of the Black Stars in the tournament. Osei Kofi scored in the final against Tunisia and also provided assist. He stays at Kasoa, near Accra.
