Public sector workers who are on strike will not receive their salaries for the period they have been on strike.
A statement from the Employment and Labour relations ministry is reminding the workers of the Labour Act 2003 (Act 651), which among others state that a worker on strike "may forfeit his/ her remuneration in respect of the period during which he /she is engaged in the illegal strike."
Currently the Ghana Medical Association, GMA, University Teachers Association, UTAG and the Government and Hospital Pharmacists Association, GHOSPA are all on strike.
Government has described as illegal the action of the associations.
According to government the workers embarked on their strike while negotiations were ongoing rendering their action illegal.
The minister of Employment and Labour relations, Haruna Iddrisu wants "heads of government establishments where workers have embarked on illegal (partial or full) strike actions to compile and submit to their respective Ministers of State the list of workers who have been absenting themselves from work as a result of a strike or protest."
The lists are expected to be submitted to the Ministry by Friday the 14th of August 2015
