BECE candidate goes blind right after opening paper for exam

A final year candidate of Akyem Panning Junior High School in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region reportedly went blind as soon as he opened the Integrated Science question paper for the start of the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination.

The eyes of the student, named Bernard Opoku turned yellowish with tears flowing down his cheeks.

This made it impossible for him to read what had been written on the paper, the Daily Guide reports.

The incident brought the examination temporarily to a halt as the candidates were mostly focused on their colleague.

Teachers subsequently prayed for Opoku and fortunately he was able to open his left eye but not the right one.

The District Chief Executive of Atiwa, Kwabena Nkansah Pannin, who had tthen visited the school with the District Education Director, I.K. Okyere, ordered the teachers to send Opoku to the hospital after writing the paper.
