Ghana winger Albert Adomah is dreaming of following in the footsteps of Jamie Vardy by taking the Premier League by storm next season with Middlesbrough.
Vardy’s rise from the Stocksbridge Park Steels to Premier League leaders with Leicester City via Halifax and Fleetwood is a romantic tale and has heartened everyone.
The Lambeth-born winger, who has had spells with Barnet and Bristol City since 2008, was playing for Isthmian League Premier Division side Harrow Borough at around the same time as Vardy was banging goals in for fun at Stocksbridge.
Adomah, who scored the opener at Fulham on Saturday, said: “I used to play for a local amateur side when I was 16. I started in the tenth team and worked my way up to the firsts.
“Back then it was my aim just to make it as a professional, so when I signed for Barnet I achieved that. I've taken it from there and played for Ghana at the World Cup. It's been amazing.
“My ambition is to play in the Premier League, so hopefully I can fulfil that with Middlesbrough. Players like Vardy and (Rickie) Lambert have gone from non-league to compete at the top level. It shows that anything is possible.”
