<p>The Miami Dolphins pulled off a miracle, 34-33 win over the New England Patriots on Sunday with a stunning, last-second play.</p>

<p>After the Patriots failed to score a touchdown on a final fourth quarter drive, instead settling for a field goal, the Dolphins got the ball back trailing 33-28 with seven seconds to play.</p>

<p>Ryan Tannehill threw a pass to the 47-yard line to Kenny Stills. Stills then lateral-ed the ball to DeVante Parker, who lateral-ed to Kenyan Drake. The announcers even seemed resigned to the Dolphins losing, when all of the sudden Drake found some running room.</p>

<p>Bill Belichick's Hail Mary defense came back to bite him, as Rob Gronkowski was playing deep to try to break up any deep passes. As Drake found room to run, Gronkowski mis-played the angle and couldn't catch Drake. Drake ran free for the game-winning touchdown.</p>

<p>The loss prevented the Patriots from clinching the AFC East for the tenth straight year and continued a bizarre pattern in which the team has struggled in Miami.</p>

<p>The loss was also a huge one for the Dolphins as it moved them to 7-6 and within striking range of one of the wild card spots in the AFC.</p>

Dolphins pull off stunning upset over Patriots with last-second hook-and-ladder play

<p>With 2018 coming to a close, we compiled the best plays in sports we saw this year and arranged them in a completely subjective order.</p>

<p>On the list you'll find feats of athleticism from jaw-dropping jumps to clever maneuvers. Of course, the stakes of the play, the athlete, and the situation all got taken into account. A game-winner in the playoffs is cooler than a great pass — it just is.</p>

<p>Additionally, star power played a part. When LeBron James hits a game-winner or dunks on somebody, it simply means more than if the 8th man on the team does so. And — spoiler alert — James had a highlight-filled year.</p>

<p>Our top 40 plays of 2018 include action from the World Cup, Super Bowl, World Series, NHL playoffs, NBA season and more.</p>

<h1> 40. Tiger Woods eagles from 95 yards out at the Memorial Tournament </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Was there anyone more watched or more rooted-for in 2018? Fresh off some encouraging rounds at The Players Championship and Masters, Woods continued to round into shape, sending the crowd into a frenzy with this shot.</p>

<h1> 39. LeBron James fools the entire Lakers defense </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  James was on cruise control for half of the 2017-18 season, but in the latter part of the year, he turned it on, seemingly creating jaw-dropping highlights each night. This one was pretty, understated, and another example that he controls all parts of the game.</p>

<h1> 38. Ping pong player practices perfect paddle defense </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong> <a href="https://deadspin.com/table-tennis-guy-pulls-off-the-last-ditch-block-of-a-li-1830784334" id="ae22ff65-9437-3067-abf9-179e0c9685f3">  According to Deadspin </a> , this is 15-year-old Chris Chen at the Trondheim Table Tennis Club going with a last-ditch defense and coming up with the point. We're not sure he could do this again if he tried — then again, maybe he has!</p>

<h1> 37. Patrick Mahomes throws a 73-yard touchdown vs. the Rams </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Rams-Chiefs shootout was the NFL's game of the year. Mahomes, the Chiefs young star quarterback, took things up a level by delivering a 73-yard strike to Tyreek Hill in the fourth quarter. This is not the last you'll see of Mahomes on this list.</p>

<h1> 36. LeBron James goes through his teammate's legs and gets an and-1 </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The best offensive players in the NBA can split double-teams no problem. James took it to a new level by going behind his back, through a teammate's legs, then getting the and-1 bucket.</p>

<h1> 35. Colombia's James Rodriguez bends a pass for an assist in the World Cup. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Colombian star took home the Golden Boot in 2014. At the 2018 World Cup Rodriguez showed off his passing sorcery, curving a ball to Juan Cuadrado for the goal.</p>

<h1> 34. Sue Bird dishes it behind her head. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The best assists in basketball are the ones you simply don't see coming, and nobody was prepared for Bird to go no-look, behind-the-head on this play.</p>

<h1> 33. Rasmus Ristolainen goes between the legs for a goal </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Buffalo Sabres defenseman made this move look easy, then gave us an equally good celebration.</p>

<h1> 32. Kolten Wong makes the diving stop, bobbles the ball, still gets the out </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  There are more dramatic dives than this, but can anybody top Wong's arm strength to beat the runner?</p>

<h1> 31. Patrick Mahomes goes left-handed for the first down </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Mahomes might have the best arm in the NFL. That goes for both arms, as he somehow managed a first down with Von Miller bearing down on him.</p>

<h1> 30. Benjamin Pavard nails a screamer in the World Cup </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The French defender scored his first career international goal on a huge stage vs. Argentina. The shot itself was gorgeous. The slow-mo of the spin takes it to a new level.</p>

<h1> 29. Larry Nance Jr. posterizes Kevin Durant </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Larry Nance Jr. can jump. While he was with the Lakers, he went full Statue-of-Liberty to dunk on Durant — no easy feat.</p>

<h1> 28. Edeiny Echavarria skies for the out. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  As the Yankees routed the A's in the AL Wild Card game, the third basemen showed off impressive hops to rob a sure base hit.</p>

<h1> 27. LeBron James goes behind his back, through a defender's legs, to find Dwyane Wade </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  How did James see this, let alone get the ball through a Magic defender's legs for the pass? Bonus points for Wade's reaction.</p>

<h1> 26. Keelan Cole makes a one-handed grab against the Patriots. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Jaguars wide receiver Keelan Cole pulled off the best one-handed grab of the 2018 NFL season. If this had gone for a touchdown, it may have surpassed Odell Beckham Jr. in style points.</p>

<h1> 25. Ramon Laurreano makes a 321-foot throw for a double play </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The catch at the wall was impressive enough, but turning this into a double play made it perhaps the most impressive throw of the MLB season.</p>

<h1> 24. Filip Forsberg toys with a defender </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Forsberg's move is more-or-less the same as Ristolainen's, but Forsberg went through his legs, then back around the defender, and he did it in the playoffs. Forsberg wins.</p>

<h1> 23. Patrick Mahomes does his best Aaron Rodgers impression </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Mahomes is back! The first-year starter proved he's the most electric quarterback in the league early this season, scrambling away from the defense, nearly falling, then firing a 20-yard fastball to such a precise location in the end zone that the defense had no chance at taking it.</p>

<h1> 22. Sidney Crosby taps the puck in mid-air for the goal </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Sidney Crosby makes the game look easy. When he's evading defenders by alley-ooping the puck to himself, then smashing it into the net like a table tennis point, you know he's having fun.</p>

<h1> 21. Adam Engel robs three home runs in one week </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Okay, this is cheating a bit. Robbing a home run at the wall is one of the most spectacular plays in baseball. White Sox outfielder Adam Engel did it three times in one week, with each successive catch becoming more spectacular. To choose just one of these as a best play would be unfair to Engel.</p>

<h1> 20. Lionel Messi shows perfect ball control and finally gets on the World Cup scoreboard </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Much was made about Messi's struggles before and during the World Cup. In Argentina's second game, Messi finally got on the board, corralling a deep ball like no one else in soccer could, then blasting it into the net.</p>

<h1> 19. DeMar DeRozan posterizes the Pistons in the clutch </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Certain plays leave the sports world buzzing for extended periods of time, and that's what DeMar DeRozan did on this play. Not only did DeRozan go for 42 points in the game, the entire scene made it one of the best plays of the year: the full-court sprint, massive dunk, go-ahead bucket in the final seconds, his teammates' reactions, the call from Mike Tirico, the buzz of an away crowd. Wow.</p>

<h1> 18. Kevin Durant buries the Cavaliers ... again </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Kevin Durant hit a go-ahead three-pointer from 30 feet out in a decisive Game 3 win over the Cavs in the 2017 Finals. He then hit the same shot, in the same situation, in the same game, to break the Cavs' hearts. The man is cold-blooded.</p>

<h1> 17. Gary Anderson throws a nine-darter. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Sure, it's not the most physically impressive play on this list, but find a greater crowd reaction than this, we dare you.</p>

<h1> 16. Giannis Antetokounmpo literally jumps over Tim Hardaway Jr. for a slam </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  When the dunk happened line, it almost didn't strike everyone that Antetokounmpo leaped over Tim Hardaway Jr. It's no Vince Carter hurdle, but it's one of the smoothest posterizations we've seen.</p>

<h1> 15. James Harden breaks Wesley Johnson's ankles, ruthlessly. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  As if Harden's crossover wasn't enough, his stare-down of Johnson, completely stopping the play, only served to make it more embarrassing. This play was the talk of the sports world for a good 48 hours.</p>

<h1> 14. Mirai Nagasu becomes the first woman to land a triple axel in the Olympics </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  We left out moments from the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics because most of those qualify as "performances" rather than "plays." But in the case of Nagasu, she had an individual highlight during the team event in Pyeongchang by landing the triple axel. Just as great as the move was her inability to contain her excitement during and after her skate. Chills.</p>

<h1> 13. Tiffany Hayes hits a game-winner from beyond half-court. </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  It's a half-court game-winner. Enough said.</p>

<h1> 12. Miami upsets UNC with wild buzzer-beater </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Joel Berry appeared to play hero for UNC with a gusty pull-up three, but Miami responded with a buzzer-beating heave to beat the ninth ranked Tar Heels. Pandemonium!</p>

<h1> 11. Ronaldo goes full bicycle kick in the Champions League </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Fresh into his Juventus career, Ronaldo evened up the score against his former team with a picture-esque bicycle kick.</p>

<h1> 10. Braden Holtby makes the save of the NHL season </h1>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Vegas Golden Knights were the darling team of the sports world going into the Stanley Cup Final, but it was Holtby that quite literally helped the Capitals stop them. His stretched-out, cat-reflex save goes down in NHL history as one of the best.</p>

<h1> 9. Max Muncy ends the longest World Series game ever with a walk-off home run </h1>

<p>The 2003 NBA Draft remains one of the most legendary drafts in NBA history.</p>

<p>Though it may lack the depth of <a id="1d964b37-8378-3679-a045-3848c34b87f0" href="http://www.businessinsider.com/where-are-they-now-1996-nba-draft-2016-4?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  the classic 1996 Kobe Bryant draft </a> , it was among the most top-heavy we've ever seen: LeBron James went first, and the top five picks were rounded out by Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, and Dwyane Wade.</p>

<p>Of course, like all drafts, it also produced some famous busts, role players, and players who went into other fields after their playing days were over.</p>

<h1> Chris Bosh was picked No. 4 overall by the Toronto Raptors. </h1>

<h1> Boshs career took a turn when he was twice diagnosed with bloodclots. He hasnt played since 2016. He was an 11-time All-Star. </h1>

<h1> Dwyane Wade was picked No. 5 overall by the Miami Heat. </h1>

<h1> After 13 seasons with the Heat, Wade briefly hopped around the league. He played one year with the Bulls, half a season with the Cavs, then got traded back to Miami in 2018. </h1>

<h1> Chris Kaman was picked No. 6 overall by the Los Angeles Clippers. </h1>

<h1> Kaman retired from the NBA in 2015-16. He played 13 seasons, making one all-Star team, and made $86 million. Its unclear what he does now, but he was inducted into the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame in 2018. </h1>

<h1> Kirk Hinrich was picked No. 7 overall by the Chicago Bulls </h1>

<h1> Hinrich played 13 seasons in the NBA, 11 of them with the Bulls. He now works with Sanford Power basketball, a training a facility in the midwest. </h1>

<p>Lance Armstrong's early investment in Uber has paid off big time.</p>

<p>In an <a id="d160c6b5-2f15-3b79-ab69-31f571791362" href="https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/06/lance-armstrong-says-his-investment-in-uber-saved-our-family.html">  interview with CNBC </a> on Thursday, Armstrong revealed that in 2009, he made a $100,000 investment in Chris Sacca's venture capital firm, Lowercase Capital. His investment was then mostly spent on Uber, which at the time had a valuation of $3.7 million.</p>

<p>Today, banks estimate Uber to be worth $120 billion, as its preparing for its first IPO.</p>

<p>Armstrong declined to say how much the investment is worth today, but called it "too good to be true."</p>

<p>"It's saved our family," Armstrong said.</p>

<p>Armstrong lost millions in lawsuits and broken endorsements in the wake of his doping scandal. <a id="46d3bb1a-e809-3c5c-a255-588c4562f23c" href="https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2018/apr/19/lance-armstrong-settlement-usps-lawsuit">  According to The Guardian </a> , he had paid as much as $20 million in lawsuits and settlements.</p>

<p>Armstrong is now starting his venture fund called Next Venture, which will invest in sports, nutrition, and wellness markets.</p>

Lance Armstrong hit the jackpot with an early $100,000 investment in Uber

<p>It's been a momentous year for the Philadelphia 76ers, and the season isn't even halfway through.</p>

<p>After a sluggish start, the team pulled off a blockbuster trade for All-Star guard/forward Jimmy Butler, pairing him with fellow superstars Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The team has since won eight of ten games and appears to be among the contenders in the Eastern Conference.</p>

<p>Conversely, the team has also dealt with the extended Markelle Fultz saga. The 2017 No. 1 pick has once again dealt with shooting issues, with his agent announcing that Fultz would be seeing specialists to diagnose issues in his shoulders. On Tuesday, it was reported that Fultz has a nerve issue that will force him to him miss three to six weeks while he rehabs.</p>

<p>After speaking at Business Insider's IGNITION conference, 76ers co-owner Michael Rubin briefly spoke with INSIDER to discuss the 76ers' whirlwind season, from the Butler trade, to his favorite Embiid story, Simmons' relationship with Kendall Jenner, and Fultz.</p>

<p><strong> Scott Davis: What convinced you guys to make the move for Jimmy Butler? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Mitchell Leff/Getty Michael Rubin: </strong>  Anything every team wants to do is, how do you strengthen the team on the court day in and day out? I think for the Sixers, it was certainly a great opportunity to bring in another superstar and to go from two superstars to three superstars is incredible.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: What has surprised you about Butler's fit with the team? What conceptions did you have about him that have been different in reality? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin: </strong> I think Jimmy's been incredible. We thought this was a guy who's incredibly tough, and he's even tougher than we thought. The way he's been able to take two game-winning shots in his first few games just shows what he's made of. He's got a lot of experience. He's a real baller making a real difference. He's making a difference on the court and off the court, really in every aspect of the organization.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: How have Butler and Joel Embiid worked together? There was some talk about whether two big personalities like theirs would clash. How has it been? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin: </strong>  I don't think it's a secret that I'm incredibly close with Jo. We talk about this all the time. I think they're jelling really well. I think they're liking each other. I think they really believe in each other.</p>

<p>I think, to be honest, the way I've seen Ben, Joel, and Jimmy all grow has been pretty incredible. I think Jimmy's come in with the right attitude: 'Hey, I don't care if I don’t make as many shots as I used to because I've got two other superstars. I just want to win at all costs.' By the way, that's someone we wanted, someone who had a winning attitude. And that's what he brings to the table.</p>

<p><strong> Davis:  </strong> <strong> What's your best Joel Embiid story? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin:  </strong> I mean, how many days do you have to be here? I've got so many incredible Joel Embiid stories.</p>

<p>Well, one that's pretty well known, we went to a friend's birthday together in the Bahamas earlier this year. Joel, we had to convince him to go down a waterslide. After we got down the waterslide, in the Bahamas, there was, like, a rapid river and it was about two feet high. And Joel literally started hyperventilating and he thought he was drowning. I'm like, 'Jo, stand up, stand up! You're okay, bro!' And he was literally like, it was like two feet of water that a five-year-old could stand up in, and he was literally drowning in the water.</p>

<p><strong> Davis:  </strong> <strong> Was there a moment of panic that your franchise star was going to drown in a lazy river? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin:  </strong> No, there was no moment of panic. It was two feet of water. I was 100% convinced that he could, on his knees, even if he just pushed his hands up, he'd be okay.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: There's Embiid's on-court persona, which is well known. What's he like off of the court? Is there something people don't realize about him? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin:  </strong> No, the Joel you see on the court is exactly what you have off the court. He's that much of a character day-in and day-out.</p>

<p>We went, we challenged Joel to a little sales competition in the NBA Store last week. On the way, I walked into my apartment, and Joel had ordered five dozen Krispy Kreme doughnuts. ... He wanted to figure out how to fatten me up because he thought he could torture me and that was the fun thing to do ... I'm not going to speak to how many he had, but it was a both disappointing — because we don’t want him eating sugar like that — but also impressive amount of doughnuts consumed.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: Is it true he had to be cut off of Shirley Temples? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin:  </strong> He is not cut off from Shirley Temples.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: What do you think about the petition that fans signed to keep Kendall Jenner from Sixers games? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Dia Dipasupil/Getty Rubin:  </strong> I think it's ridiculous. I think Kendall's awesome. I've spent a bunch of time with her. I was with Kendall a few days ago and Kendall insisted on going home and getting a good night's sleep when Ben wanted to stay out for a late dinner. So, Kendall's been a great influence on him, and we've won every game she's been at but one so far.</p>

<p><strong> Davis: Turning to something more serious, there's a lot of speculation about the Markelle Fultz situation. What is the team doing to support him and help him through whatever he is going through? </strong></p>

<p><strong> Rubin:  </strong> Look, Markelle is an incredible human being. I know him well. You couldn't get a more likable individual. I think we're doing everything we can to support him on the court and off the court. We're gonna make sure he gets the best medical care possible and we're gonna do everything we possibly can to support him.</p>

<p>We've officially reached the homestretch of the NFL season.</p>

<p>Every team has four games left to either win their division, earn a Wild Card spot, or fall to the first overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft.</p>

<p>On Sunday, the Los Angeles Rams became the first team in football to secure a playoff spot, a goal plenty more division leaders hope to accomplish in the coming weeks. After them, there is a sea of teams that have the potential to make a run in the postseason, including some that will need to be near-perfect if they want to play into January.</p>

<p>Going into a big Week 14, here's where all 32 teams stand.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Titans, 26-22</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong>  at Buffalo Bills</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Jets held a lead for 54 minutes of the game and were up 16 points at one point, but eventually blew it to the Titans to lose their sixth straight game.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Seahawks, 43-16</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong> vs. Denver Broncos</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  Richard Sherman's homecoming didn't go as planned, as the Seahawks ran right over the 49ers.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Chiefs, 40-33</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong>  vs. Pittsburgh Steelers</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Raiders nearly pulled off an upset on the Chiefs, but were undoubtedly hurt by all three of their running backs fumbling the ball.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Beat the Colts, 6-0</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong> at Tennessee Titans</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Jaguars shutout win over the Colts was one of the most shocking results of Week 13, but there's still only so far you can go when you're 4-8 and starting Cody Kessler.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Dolphins, 21-17</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong>  vs. New York Jets</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong> The Bills' comeback bid against the Dolphins <a id="a5ba5e2b-4c0e-3652-aab0-5d0f1936eefe" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/buffalo-bills-lose-2018-12?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  ended in painful fashion </a> when Josh Allen's 40-yard desperation pass on fourth down was dropped by a wide open Charles Clay in the end zone.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Beat the Packers, 20-17</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong> vs. Detroit Lions</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong> The Cardinals' biggest win of the season <a id="c06fcc0a-3500-38e6-ae70-f37912e8fbd0" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/mike-mccarthy-fired-2018-12?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  cost the opposing coach his job </a> . It's better than nothing.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Ravens, 26-16</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong>  at Green Bay Packers</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong>  The Falcons have lost four straight and failed to score over 20 points in each game, but team owner Arthur Blank said he still has faith in the coaching staff.</p>

<p><strong> Week 13 result: </strong>  Lost to the Rams, 30-16</p>

<p><strong> Week 14 opponent: </strong> at Arizona Cardinals</p>

<p><strong> One thing to know: </strong> Lions left tackle Taylor Decker <a id="fce6dfdd-ef56-3ad5-a1c4-58e86f6eef60" href="https://twitter.com/Lions/status/1069324010842779648">  scored the first touchdown of his career </a> on Sunday, taking in an 11-yard reception from Matthew Stafford.
