In a statement dated Saturday, October 19, 2024, and signed by Nana J.K. Boadi, the office of the paramount chief explained that the video footage claiming to depict a "destoolment procedure is not only false, but also contravenes both legal standards and Kwahu customs."

It stated that "no formal charges have ever been brought against the Kwahuhene that would justify any destoolment process.

Furthermore, he has not been found liable of any misconduct related to his role as Chairman of the Board of the Agricultural Development Bank."

On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Kwahumanhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, resigned as the Board Chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB) following a directive from the Bank of Ghana, after a client of the bank, Collins Darkwa Aboagye, petitioned the Office of the President pleading for presidential intervention to help retrieve GH¢2.406 million owed him by the then ADB board chairman.

The BoG maintained that the Kwahumanhene’s continuous holding of office as a director of the bank was becoming untenable due to the irreparable damage the events had caused the image of ADB.

Following the directive of the central bank, Daasebre Agyapong resigned from his role as Board Chairman of ADB.

However, in the press statement, the demand for his (Daasebre) resignation by the Banking Supervision Division of the Bank of Ghana came without prior opportunity for the Kwahuhene to respond to the allegations, which raises concerns about due process.

Given the circumstances, the Kwahuhene decided to temporarily step down to facilitate a proper resolution of the issue.

However, the office finds it confusing despite the absence of any findings against Daasebre, a video falsely suggesting his destoolment is being circulated.

The Office of the Kwahuhene has reacted to a video in circulation and earlier media reports suggesting the destoolment of Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong Il as a paramount chief.

This move by the Traditional Council strips the chief of all titles and chieftain privileges with immediate effect.

This decision of the council comes at back of a recent petition from the youth of Kwahu on October 11, 2024, demanding decisive actions against Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II in line with their customs and traditions to restore the sanctity of the Kwahu Traditional Council.

The chief was allegedly involved in an extortion scheme and misconduct during his tenure as board chairman of the Agricultural Development Bank PLC (ADB).

According to members of the traditional council, the decision was necessary to rid the Kwahu state of any shame and to prevent any issues that could lead to violence.

The rites performed on Saturday, October 19, 2024, involved the elders of the traditional council pouring libation and offering prayers to their deities as part of the final procedure for the destoolment.

Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II, who also served as the Board Chairman of ADB, allegedly extorted GHC2 million from a businessman, Collins Darkwah Aboagye, to facilitate a GHC12million loan.

In a petition to the office of the president, despite paying a GH$50,000 facilitation fee and the requested loan amount, the businessman claimed that the chief delayed repayment and only returned a fraction of the money after months of pressure.

This controversy led to the Bank of Ghana (BoG) issuing a directive on October 10, 2024, ordering Daasebre Akuamoah Agyapong II to resign as Board Chairman of ADB due to the reputational damage inflicted on the bank.

The BoG stated that the chief's continued presence at the bank was untenable, sparking widespread calls for his removal from both chieftaincy and board chair roles.

Speaking on Peace FM, Yeboah claimed that during Nyantakyi’s tenure, he withdrew a substantial sum of two million dollars from the Black Stars’ account at UniBank for personal use.

According to Yeboah, these funds were not utilised for any activities related to the Black Stars, Ghana’s national football team, but were instead diverted for Nyantakyi’s personal gain. He further criticised the infamous Anas Number 12 Exposé, describing it as the most detrimental event in the history of Ghanaian football.

“The worst thing to have happened to our football is Anas’ exposé. President Nyantakyi single-handedly went to UniBank to withdraw $2 million for himself. Even when he was arrested, the GFA was not dissolved, so no matter what happens, the president cannot dissolve the GFA,” Yeboah asserted.

Nyantakyi’s tenure as GFA president came to an ignominious end following the release of the explosive exposé by undercover investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas. The exposé revealed widespread corruption within the GFA, leading to Nyantakyi’s resignation and subsequent ban from all football-related activities by FIFA.

As part of the concerns raised by people, organisations, and pressure groups to get the government to put a ban on illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.com.gh/news/local/utag-declares-national-strike-over-galamsey-after-clash-with-organised-labour/v8mfsn7">UTAG</a> members voted to declare industrial action in favour of a national ban on mining in forest reserves, farmlands, and rivers on Wednesday, October 9, 2024.

However, some members opposed the strike action and have filed a petition for the national leadership to suspend the strike action.

Speaking in an interview on TV3’s KeyPoints, on Saturday, October 19, 2024, Professor Gyampo alleged that the ‘rebel’ members of&nbsp;UTAG opposing the strike action are being influenced by some big wigs in the NPP.

He asserted that some NPP big wigs have made calls to sway UTAG members not to join the strike.

According to him, the Union is fighting for a national interest with their stance on galamsey and would not back down on their strike action.

“You can do all sort of things to break the front of Organised Labour, not UTAG. You can go to hell, we are still on strike,” he said.

Prof. Gyampo further expressed concerns about how the current government is not tolerant about dissenting views from labour unions and citizens.

National Secretary of the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), and Professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, Prof. Ransford Gyampo has criticised the New Patriotic Party (NPP) claiming that the party has influenced some UTAG members not to proceed on strike.

In response to these criticisms, Bawumia’s earlier argument that he is only a “driver’s mate” in this government, and that the shortfalls of the current government cannot be solely attributed to him, as he serves in a supporting role, would give an impression of giving him a chance of his own.

According to report by JoyNews, the incident occurred when a member of a local security group, employed by Chinese miners, fired into a mining pit.

The women were reportedly working in the pit, hoping to find leftover gold, when the guard attempted to disperse them by firing a warning shot. Unfortunately, the shot went astray, leading to the death of one, whilst seven others got injured.

As a result of the incident, angry locals set fire to an excavator belonging to the illegal miners. The injured were taken to hospitals for treatment, with two being referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and five remaining at the Mankranso Government Hospital.

According to him, a lot of the galamsey sites operates with guns which poses security risks to the country.

“You know what I fear? Do you know that we are creating a rebel armed force? We are creating rebels out of this (galamsey). So let’s say about four hundred people are wielding 100 guns; these galamseyers are armed. So, bit by bit, by the time we realise, they’ve turned into what is known as a ragtag army, who are soldiers not properly trained but are armed and know how to fire rifles.”

Meanwhile, there are growing concerns from various organisations, and people over galamsey activities and its degrading impact on the environment. Pressure groups religious organisations alike have staged protests in the past weeks to put pressure on the government to put a ban on galamsey. However, Ghanaians are yet to see an action from the government.

“The Ghana Police Service has restored calm at Mamobi, a suburb of Accra, following disturbances between supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the area that resulted in the injuries of nine persons.”

While seven of the injured individuals have been released from the hospital after receiving treatment, two remain hospitalised.

According to the statement, police are conducting an intelligence-led operation to apprehend the identified perpetrators and bring them to justice.

However, there has not been any official communication from both parties involved condemning the actions.

The Ghana Police Service intervened to restore order in Mamobi, a suburb of Accra, after a clash between supporters of the NPP and NDC resulted in nine people getting injured.

He explained that the initial design included provisions for a second gas train, contingent on the availability of more gas.&nbsp;

However, he criticised the current government for failing to invest in gas production over the past eight years but in a haste to sign a new contract for the second gas project. According to Mahama, the government is committing to the contract so they party members would benefit financially from it.&nbsp;

“Because the NPP knows they are going out of office, they are signing agreements and committing the country to projects for which they want to take advantage. Prof. Mills and myself, the NDC government… we go the financing from the China. We built the first train of the gas project, which was the Atuabo Gas Project. In that Atuabo Project, there was the design that if we get more gas, we add a second gas train. For eight years, this government has not invested in producing more gas. And yet, even though there isn’t enough gas in sight yet, they are in a hurry to commit this country to a second gas train before they leave office,” he stated.

Despite the lack of sufficient gas, Mahama claimed that the NPP is rushing to commit the country to a second gas train project before leaving office. He warned that such actions could result in financial losses and judgement debts for the state.&nbsp;

“And I’m telling them that this could lead to a financial loss to the state. It could lead to judgement debt. So, if they haven’t sign it yet. They shouldn’t sign it. This eight hundred million dollar contract must go to parliament for approval. You cannot hide it and sign a contract like this behind the people of Ghana, we will hold you accountable if it results in judgement debt,” he stated.

Mahama urged the government to refrain from signing the $800 million contract without parliamentary approval, emphasising the need for transparency and accountability.

According to him, these contradicting views lead to the mockery of God, as prophets represent God on earth, and their prophecies must be consistent.

Speaking on United Showbiz on Saturday, Arnold stressed how these attitudes of prophets breed mistrust among followers of God, which, according to him, decreases people's faith in God.

“We are mocking God if one representative of God is saying A, the other B. It breeds mistrust. Some of the purposes for going to church is trust because we believe that something will happen there. So if I have 2 representatives of God giving me 2 different accounts of a particular thing, in my mind, I'll feel I'm at the wrong place. Memberships are decreasing because of the lack of trust in pastors nowadays," he stated.

Arnold also emphasised that these contradicting prophecies could lead to societal unrest, citing an instance where Reverend Owusu-Bempah prophesied the death of the Chief Iman.

“In 2019, Rev. Owusu Bempah said in December that Chief Imam would pass away. This triggered some Muslim youths to ambush his church, destroy properties, and assault some members. And so these prophecies can lead to unrest sometimes.”

Arnold then stated that prophets who make fake prophecies should be confronted.

“For me, to conclude, we have to call out prophets who make a declaration and it doesn’t come to pass," he stated.

The conversation follows the recent prophecies on the upcoming December 7 election, and ones the country has witnessed in recent years, particularly about elections which the outcomes do not turn out to be true.

In December 2022, the Police warned faith leaders against making traditional New Year prophecies which could cause fear, anxiety, or death. The police order came into force in 2021 after the people were inundated by predictions of deaths and calamity.

Entertainment critic, Arnold Asamoah Baidoo, has expressed his views on prophets who make contradicting prophecies, especially in elections.

According to A Plus, he advised Reverend Owusu-Bempah against aligning with the NPP, believing it was not a suitable choice for him. Despite this, Owusu-Bempah disregarded his counsel and continued to support the party.

Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, October 12, 2024, A Plus recounted how he had previously warned the Owusu-Bempah that the NPP was not a good fit for him.

He stated that the difficulties Owusu-Bempah is currently facing are a form of divine retribution. A Plus claimed that Owusu-Bempah came to realise the truth after his arrest and subsequent remand into police custody.

"The truth is that Rev. Owusu-Bempah is my elder brother, but it is God who has punished him for whatever is happening in his life. I warned him against these people (NPP), that they are not good. But he sat me down and lectured me on the best government for this country. When he was arrested, he realised that… I told my brother not to follow these people; I prophesied to him that these people are not good, but he still insisted. The day he was remanded into police custody, I wanted to call him and congratulate him that my prophecy had come to pass,” A Plus recounted.

A Plus also expressed his support for Owusu-Bempah’s recent prophecy, which predicts that National Democratic Congress flagbearer John Dramani Mahama will win the December 7 elections.

“As for that prophecy, I believe it. He should keep giving that prophecy. I won’t believe any other prophecy apart from a prophecy that is about John Mahama winning,” he said.

However, the clergyman has come under heavy criticism over the prophecy with others calling for a ban on prophecies on elections. They believe such prophecies could be recipes for chaos.

This announcement comes amid the resolution of a longstanding contractual dispute with Mulch Company Limited, formerly Pine Springs Company Limited, which had been managing the Gardens.

In a statement released on Saturday, October 12, 2024, the dispute, which began in 2009 when the University entered into an agreement with Pine Springs Company Limited for the renovation and management of the Botanical Gardens, culminated in legal proceedings.&nbsp;

The University successfully affirmed its position, leading to Mulch Company Limited agreeing to cease operations and vacate the Gardens by November 30, 2024.

According to the statement, during the closure, the University of Ghana will undertake repairs and renovations to restore and enhance the Botanical Gardens.&nbsp;

The management emphasised their commitment to maintaining the Gardens as a place of beauty, learning, research, and recreation, in line with the University’s mission to promote sustainability and environmental awareness.

The University reassured the community that the Legon Botanical Gardens will continue to serve as a vital green space. Once the necessary improvements are completed, the Gardens will reopen to the public.

“The University assures the public that the Legon Botanical Gardens will continue to operate as a green space for the community. Following a period of repairs and renovations, the Botanical Gardens will reopen to the public, fulfilling its intended purpose as a vital green zone, ” part of the statement indicated.&nbsp;

On Friday, October 11, 2024, the Legon Botanical Gardens announced&nbsp;on X that the facility will be closed down on October 30 2024.
