<p>About 7,000 Central Americans have fled their crime-ridden and violent homelands in the Northern Triangle for the US border in what has become <a id="22fde3d2-4561-3e57-ab0e-b048485556cb" href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/migrant-caravan-coming-to-us-border-history-size-2018-10?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  the largest caravan to date. </a></p>

<p>Migrants in the Honduran city of San Pedro Sula first formed the <a id="2b781acd-1b4b-3a7b-ad05-8c05bd3dc28d" href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/migrant-caravan-coming-to-us-border-history-size-2018-10?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  unplanned </a> northbound caravan on <a id="bba9077c-21cd-330b-a111-fe788211c658" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ap-migrant-caravan-moving-to-western-mexico-city-of-guadalajara-2018-11">  October 13. </a> Others have fled from El Salvador and Guatemala to also embark on the <a id="b581a7cf-ca4a-3bcf-a3a2-1dfd402a3939" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/ap-migrant-caravan-moving-to-western-mexico-city-of-guadalajara-2018-11">  2,700-mile </a> journey toward the United States.</p>

<p>Conditions along the way are not great — <a id="6963ac24-79f2-301d-ae32-2f4a40e37223" href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/why-the-caravan-is-coming-to-the-us-border-2018-10?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest">  the heat is sweltering </a> , the days are long, and food and shelter are not always readily available.</p>

<p>To prevent the caravan from growing too large in size, Mexico has offered the opportunity to claim asylum there instead of the US. But most migrants have rejected the proposal.</p>

<p>"The United States is better," Honduran migrant Glenda Escobar told <a id="84aee435-511e-3673-a583-3e2ceee98196" href="https://widerimage.reuters.com/story/a-day-in-the-life-of-the-migrant-caravan">  Reuters. </a> "For everything."</p>

<p>Here's what it's like for migrants who have walked thousands of miles to seek asylum in the US.</p>

<h1> Most awoke in the early hours of the morning to make it to the next town before the weather got too warm. </h1>

<h1> If migrants were lucky, they would hitchhike on passing cars to the next town. </h1>

<h1> Thats not always safe though. Salvador and his family, pictured below, told activist Paola Mendoza that riding on the trucks can be dangerous, but he feels he has no choice. "I couldnt stay in the place where we were living," he said. "Gangs threatened to kill me and my kids. My only option was to go North.” </h1>

<h1> Another migrant, Nubia and her two children, told Mendoza that her neighborhood back home was violent, and shes traveling to the US so that her kids will have a better future. </h1>

<h1> Honduran migrant Glenda Escobar told Reuters that shes headed toward Los Angeles. "Its because, in my dreams, God told me thats where hes sending me," Escobar said. </h1>

<h1> Escobar and her two sons, 5-year-old Adonai and 8-year-old Denzel, joined the caravan on October 14 with only a plastic tarp, clothes, and soap. </h1>

<h1> The man who fathered Denzel and Adonai was abusive and forced her from her own home in Honduras, Escobar said. She said she packed fast when a neighbor informed her of the caravan traveling northward. </h1>

<h1> President Gerald Ford replaced Nixon and appointed Bush as head of the US Liaison Office in the People's Republic of China. </h1>

<h1> He filled that position until 1976, when he became the director of the CIA. </h1>

<h1> Bush resigned from the CIA when Democrat Jimmy Carter became president in 1977. </h1>

<h1> In 1980, Bush ran for the Republican nomination in the presidential election. But he was overtaken by the widely-popular Ronald Reagan, who eventually chose him as his running mate. Bush would serve two terms as vice president under Reagan. </h1>

<h1> He would go on to become the 41st president of the United States in 1989. He chose Daniel Quayle, a senator from Indiana, as his running mate. </h1>

<h1> At the time, the US was in the midst of an economic recession and was affected by a hefty federal budget deficit, which stonewalled his efforts to advance domestic policies. </h1>

<h1> Foreign policy soon became a central focus in the Bush administration. </h1>

<h1> At the time of Bush's inauguration, the world was reeling from the Cold War and the Soviet Union was collapsing. </h1>

<h1> In 1991, Bush and Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev signed the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START I), which limited strategic nuclear weapons in both countries and improved US-Soviet relations in the process. </h1>

<h1> In the previous year, Iraqi President Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait. NATO countries were called upon for aid, and Bush responded with Operation Desert Storm. </h1>

<p>Swiss photographer <a href="http://rogereberhard.com/" id="e59cbae4-78c2-3834-af8c-5a2d32e2d1d4">  Roger Eberhard </a> doesn't usually stay in hotels like the popular Hilton chain when he travels.</p>

<p>But for his new project, " <a href="http://rogereberhard.com/standard/" id="821daa0e-2b85-3af9-a15f-b33c68a8093d">  Standard </a> ," he switched things up a bit — by staying in 32 different Hilton rooms across 32 countries.</p>

<p>In each of the 32 cities, he photographed his room from the exact same angle, as well as the view of the city from the hotel window.</p>

A photographer stayed in Hilton hotels in 32 countries — and his photos expose what we really crave when we travel

<p>Photographing strangers is a necessity for many photographers. However, not many actively seek out complete strangers as subjects.</p>

<p>As a personal project, the duo behind LA-based photography studio <a id="de9cc2a2-9f19-3e82-a03e-6dd2912f1557" href="https://kremerjohnson.com/">  Kremer Johnson </a> sent an ad into the Craigslist universe asking for " <a id="e1a00dac-84a9-313a-aa08-0cb2561ef409" href="https://www.behance.net/gallery/56880909/Craigslist-Encounters">  interesting people to photograph </a> "for $20 an hour in return.</p>

<p>They initially wanted to photograph just one subject.</p>

<p>The resulting images, compiled into a photo series dubbed " <a id="66f89229-5c82-3825-a059-f210a226afbc" href="https://www.behance.net/gallery/56880909/Craigslist-Encounters">  Craigslist Encounters </a> ," ended up featuring 65 complete strangers in intimate and unique settings.</p>
