He started by wishing everyone well during these strange times, then joking that, As many of you know, whenever theres a break in our Jeopardy! tape schedule, I often take that opportunity to grow some facial hair. Looking silver-fox healthy with a neatly trimmed beard, he went on to tease a special series of Jeopardy! episodes to air this month, including the very first, featuring Trebek in a 80s-era moustache. Hes currently recording new introductions to these curated episodes.

On a more personal note, Trebek went on to share some news about his medical diagnosis. His treatment is going well, he said, though it leaves him fatigued. My numbers are good, he said. Im feeling great. And, because hes Alex Trebek, he used this time to, you know, write a bookthe man is undergoing cancer treatment, recording Jeopardy! intros, and publishing a book.

Im clearly not a runner, MacFarlane says at the beginning of the video. My legs hurt. Everything hurts. But he used to be a runner, and hes taking this as an opportunity to get back in the game.

The first day, he notes, he came out too fast. He got excited by new shoes and a new challenge, but hell have to pace himself better next time. By week two, hed strained a tendon, forcing him to walk his daily 5K.

Thanks to his running videos, though, he could review his form. Striking the ground with his heel too far in front of his body put more stress on his ankle; by adjusting his stride, he quickly fixed the problem, healing up going into week three.

Day 22, he realized, was his best day. He had his fastest time and overall felt at his peak. He was getting enough sleep, staying hydrated, and using a massage gun for recovery. His lungs were in tip-top shape; only his legs were holding him backthirty days had started to wear on them.

Im really happy with getting over the finish line and being done, MacFarlane reflected. Hed improved his form, recovered from an injury, and overall re-learned to love running. Of course, going from no-K to 5K a day isnt the best way to get back into runningeasing into it is less likely to leave you injured. About the only thing he could do, he realized, was run. So he set a goal: five kilometers a day, every day, for 30 days.

Now theyre back with a new challenge. As Hobson explains at the beginning of the , thanks to the success of their YouTube channel, the team can now take on projects that would have been purely pie-in-the-sky before. So theyve decided to get cracking on a bionic arm from the video game Crysis.

In the game, characters wear exoskeletons that give them super strength thanks to something called . That technology, as you may have guessed, is fictional; despite Crysis, released in 2007, being set in 2020, we havent yet invented super-powered Nanosuits.

That said, there is a long history of engineers building artificial, pneumatic muscles. As the Hacksmith video lays out, pneumatic muscles can be better than the real thing, but they have some serious limitations, too. One is that human muscles contract way more than their artificial counterparts; from an engineering perspective, that bulge you get doing a bicep curl is a byproduct of a superior muscle.

In fact, bicep curls are a good test for a bionic arm, since they require a wide range of motion thats tough to design. As the Hacksmith posse puts the finishing touches on their prototype, they arm wrestle, do curls, and generally try everything a human arm can doreiterating just how well-adapted our bodies actually are. Fitness YouTuber Chase Barron understands that. In a , he documents his thirty days without sugar or artificial sweetenersa project he compares to trying to walk in the rain without getting wet. Sweeteners are just that pervasive in our food supply, in everything from buns to salad dressing.

Barron was up for the challenge, though he begins with a caveat: Hed already enjoyed a pretty low-sugar diet, so going cold turkey for a month wasnt as hard for him as it might be for others. After eight months of losing weight, hed motivated a co-worker to also try slimming down. The two became gym buddies, starting with a <a href="https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a25172497/sets-and-reps-bodybuilding-workouts/" id="1c200cce-9117-3104-ad43-c687703608c8"> 5x5 program </a> of progressive overloads in squats, barbell rows, deadlifts, overhead presses, and bench presses three days a week. Beard did cardio twice a week on off days, including speed intervals and a 5K run.

In a year, he lost more than 65 pounds. His friends and coworkers say he looks like a different person, and he says he feels better than ever. Everyone tells me I smile a lot more now, he says.

His first 5K time was around 36 minutes, but hes shaved that down to 26 minutes; hes also prepping for his first half-marathon. Now that hes dropped so much weight, hes looking to build muscle; he admits having a little trouble wrapping his head around the idea of eating more calories rather than fewer. Hes upped his intake to 2500 calories a day, aiming for 150 grams of protein daily when hes strength training.

Beard feels like hes come back from the brink, turning his health around to make sure he has a future with his kids. He encourages anyone who wonders about their own future to take that first step. As long as you do something every week or every other day, he says, its better than nothingeven if it is a short walk on your break at work. Thats where he started, out of necessity. He stuck with it, and soon a year of real change had passed. You will be surprised by how little changes every day will add up and make a big difference.

You might think the recent coronavirus lockdowns would make it hard to produce new Hacksmith work, but in , Hobson reveals that he and a crewmember decided to self-isolate together in the Hacksmith Industries workshop. Theyve spent the past month working on a new project, and it is a doozy: a replica Iron Man glove made entirely out of metal.

As Hobson explains, the crew has really leveled up their stainless steel production processso rather than Tony Starks familiar red-and-gold suit, theyre going to build a shiny, silver gauntlet.

As you can imagine, replicating a high-tech piece of Stark Industries gear isnt simple. An armored glove still needs to let the wearer move his hand, which means accounting for twists and turns, bending and flexing. Stainless steel isnt made for that, so the hardest part is designing all the interlocking pieces of metal.

To expedite that process, Hacksmith went to an unexpected source: pepakura, or paper modeling. It turns out that cosplayers around the world have been making their own cardboard Iron Man suits, and with a little tweaking, their designs could work for plasma-cut stainless steel, too.

That required some 3D-printed custom parts, as well as making sure all of the electrical components could fit inside the handle.

Second, as any fan can tell you, Kylo Ren constructed his blade using a , giving it a crackling, unstable look. You might think thats easy to achieve by binding some chemicals used in fireworks and road flares to the lightsaber-but no, the Hacksmith crew tried that, and it didnt produce colored flame. So for now at least, their blade actually looks more refined than the original. And, of course, it can cut through just about anything.

Thats great for maintaining muscle, but as you might imagine, cardio in space comes with its own challenges. Spacewalks arent enough to keep your heart rate elevated. So the ISS includes the aptly named T2, which just stands for Treadmill 2. It looks like a regular treadmill, but with bungee cords and a harness. That keeps the astronauts from floating away in microgravity; Meir says, Its pretty fun to run on T2. You get a little extra spring in your step.

After seeing himself in the company photo, he cut his calories drastically, cutting out junk foods and eating lean meats and other foods low in carbs, and he lost about 50 pounds in two months. When he hit 180 pounds, he decided he was skinny-fat, and started consuming more calories and lifting weights to build muscle.

Ridling worked out alone, learning from YouTube videos, hitting the gym after work. He did a lot of cardio, including Insanity videos, which gave him an intense 40-minute workout. (With so many repetitions, he memorized Shaun Ts dialogue.)
