A 32-year-old high school health teacher lured her ex-husband out of his apartment so she could sneak in and kill his new 26-year-old girlfriend, according to court documents filed this week in Utah.

Chelsea Watrous Cook could face the death penalty after being charged with aggravated murder on Wednesday, among a slew of other charges.

<a id="e4342074-9b7f-386c-a8e2-595bd9555371" href="https://kutv.com/news/local/utah-teacher-charged-with-aggravated-murder-violence-in-front-of-a-child"> According to prosecutors </a> , Cook drove over to her ex-husband Travis Cook's apartment in Midvale just before 7 p.m. on November 25, saying she needed to drop off some cold medication for one of their three-year-old twin sons.

Security footage reportedly shows Cook lying in wait in a hallway of the building while her ex left the apartment to come out and meet her in the parking lot. She was then able to get into the apartment because he left the front door unlocked, <a id="07588717-ca38-3941-a8e0-8001fa892bdb" href="https://kutv.com/news/local/utah-teacher-charged-with-aggravated-murder-violence-in-front-of-a-child"> charging documents KUTV obtained </a> say.

At the time, Travis' news girlfriend, Lisa Vilate Williams, was decorating their Christmas tree with the kids.

When Travis returned to the apartment, his wife was inside and refusing to leave despite repeated commands to do so, according to the filing, and she locked herself in a bathroom when he started to call 911.

Just a few seconds later, she exited the bathroom, pulled a gun out of her coat pocket and shot Williams three times, prosecutors say.

Travis grabbed the gun away from his ex-wife, and she went to sit by their kids, who had just witnessed the killing, according to the documents.

As he was on the phone with 911, the documents say Travis saw his wife reach for her coat again, and fearing that she had another weapon, he lunged for her and pinned her against a wall and ordered his boys to go to their rooms and lock the door.

Cook was taken into custody when police arrived on the scene soon after.

Immediately after news of the shooting broke, <a id="bf6a1f02-d647-39b0-af4f-08d5c318e17c" href="https://www.deseretnews.com/article/900045238/utah-teacher-faces-aggravated-murder-charges-in-slaying-of-exs-girlfriend.html"> Cook was fired from her job </a> as a health and yoga teacher at Skyridge High School in Lehi, Deseret News reported.

She remains in Salt Lake County Jail without bail. It's unclear when her trial will start.

According to Williams' mother, Tawny, Cook had been harassing her daughter.

The court documents also show that about a month before the shooting, Williams came up in a dispute between the Cooks in which the police were called.

Travis was trying to pick up his kids from his ex on October 16 when she made "disparaging comments" about his girlfriend, <a id="a82c52b7-ec77-3f42-a65f-d75dd130264c" href="https://www.foxnews.com/us/charges-woman-shot-exs-girlfriend-after-drawing-him-away"> according to a police report the AP obtained </a> . When he prompted one of his sons to say he was excited to see Williams, Cook reportedly grabbed her ex by his hair, causing him to tumble down a set of stairs.

The Obamas have long been friends of the British Royal family, especially when it comes to Prince William and Prince Harry.

So it's perhaps no surprise that Harry's new wife, Meghan Markle, met with former first lady Michelle Obama while she was in London for her book tour on Monday.

A friend of the Duchess of Sussex told the <a href="https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/meghan-markle-holds-power-meeting-with-michelle-obama-in-london-a4007996.html" id="af490bbf-0652-3ed6-a1aa-73fd3ff71acf"> Evening Standard </a> that Meghan "had a long private audience with Michelle" after Obama gave a sold-out speech at the Royal Festival Hall.

The friend said the two discussed shared causes such as girls' education, as well as pregnant <a href="https://www.thisisinsider.com/meghan-markle-pregnant-due-spring-2019-2018-10?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest" id="85966119-c525-3f91-a812-ba4c377e13c8"> Markle's impending motherhood. </a>

The palace confirmed that Markle attended Obama's talk in a private capacity, but released no other details to the newspaper.

Obama was scheduled to make two more stops in Europe to publicize her new memoir, "Becoming," but she <a href="https://www.businessinsider.com/michelle-obama-attending-george-bush-funeral-canceling-book-tour-dates-2018-12" id="b5fffa1b-4794-375c-a618-ec4bae12a27f"> canceled those events after former President George H.W. Bush died on Friday. </a>

She will be attending the 41st president's funeral in Washington, D.C. along with her husband.

Michelle Obama reportedly had a secret meeting with Meghan Markle while she was in London

Chelsea Clinton shared a sweet photo of the first time she met George H.W. Bush on Monday, as the nation mourned the death of the 41st president.

The photo shows a toddler Chelsea holding onto her parents' hands at what appears to be a lawn party.

Bush, who would have been President Ronald Reagan's vice president at the time, crouches down to greet a bashful-looking Chelsea.

"Loved finding this photo over the weekend of my first time meeting President George H.W. Bush," she recalled. "I remember his kindness toward me."

Chelsea said that her parents pointed out that Bush "was both kind &amp; good enough to direct me to the restroom!"

"I'm very grateful for the friendship our families share," she said.

A few years later, Bill Clinton would go on to unseat then-President Bush after he had served just one term in office.

Despite Bush and her father's political differences, they went on to become close friends in later life, and worked on raising money for charity together.

When Bush died last week, former President Clinton issued a statement saying he and his wife "give thanks for his great long life of service, love and friendship."

Clinton also remembered the same day that his daughter met the elder Bush in his statement.

"I will be forever grateful for the friendship we formed," Clinton added. "From the moment I met him as a young governor invited to his home in Kennebunkport, I was struck by the kindness he showed to Chelsea, by his innate genuine decency, and by his devotion to Barbara, his children, and their growing brood."

The Clintons are expected to attend Bush's Washington, D.C. funeral on Wednesday morning.

President George H.W. Bush's funeral is getting a royal touch, thanks to Britain's Prince Charles, who is expected to be in attendance.

The Prince of Wales' official residence, Clarence House, tweeted Tuesday that the heir to the British throne will attend the funeral on behalf of his mother, Queen Elizabeth.

The Queen released a statement following Bush's death on Friday at the age of 94. She said he was "a patriot, serving his country with honor and distinction in office and during the Second World War."

Prince Charles won't be the only foreign dignitary in attendance at the 41st president's state funeral on Wednesday in Washington, D.C.

Former Canadian Prime Minister Brian Mulroney will lead a contingent from his country, including Liberal Party MP Scott Brison and Ambassador David MacNaughton, according to <a id="e9784336-731f-39fd-a584-d6d9deebcd24" href="https://globalnews.ca/news/4726651/scott-brison-david-macnaughton-brian-mulroney-george-h-w-bush-funeral/"> Global News </a> .

President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will also attend the ceremony, despite Trump's mocking of Bush's son, Jeb, during the 2016 Republican presidential primary.

Former first lady Michelle Obama was in the middle of a book tour and <a id="42c47336-ed68-3a1f-af90-3fa1dbf52053" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/michelle-obama-attending-george-bush-funeral-canceling-book-tour-dates-2018-12?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest"> had to cancel two dates in Europe to attend the funeral. </a>

Among some of the others expected to take part in the celebration of Bush's life are House Speaker Paul Ryan, former Republican Wyoming Sen. Prince Charles joins the list of presidents, dignitaries, and DC heavyweights set to attend George H.W. Bush's funeral

Following the passing of former President George H.W. Bush on Friday, " <a id="6ab9f0ed-b058-3fc5-a647-f5599cf9dc12" href="https://www.cbsnews.com/news/george-h-w-bush-remembering-the-41st-president-of-the-united-states-60-minutes/?ftag=CNM-00-10aab7d&amp;linkId=60475577"> 60 Minutes </a> " aired an interview with his son, President George W. Bush, who shared a touching memory of his father from shortly after he was sworn in as commander in chief in 2001.

After going back to the White House after the inauguration, Bush says his chief of staff Andy Card took him to the Oval Office to see it for the first time as president.

Soon after, his father joined him in the room, and they shared a special moment, as the second father and son to each be elected president. The younger Bush recalled:

"My favorite story about all that is ... I had just gotten sworn in and Andy Card said, 'Why don't you do down to the Oval and see what it feels like as president.' And I said, 'OK.' So I went down, sitting down there and just kind of taking it all in, and in walks dad.

"So Andy had told dad that I was down there. And he walks down and I said, 'Mr. President, welcome.'

"He said, 'Thank you, Mr. President.' And that's pretty much all that was said for a while. And it was a very profound moment for me."

George W. Bush reveals the 'profound' moment he shared with his father when he entered the Oval Office for the first time as president

The late President <a id="b403cc5a-aa6d-38b6-af1a-9cc9b557bef3" href="https://www.businessinsider.com/category/george-hw-bush?utm_source=intl&amp;utm_medium=ingest"> George H.W. Bush </a> was well known for his love of socks.

He once said in 2014 that <a id="c95d1fa6-d98e-3f18-a439-39b9307e379e" href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2018/12/01/heres-why-george-h-w-bush-loved-wearing-colorful-socks/549749002/?utm_source=google&amp;utm_medium=amp&amp;utm_campaign=speakabl"> "the louder, the brighter, the crazier the pattern — the better." </a>

So it's perhaps no surprise that the 41st president will be buried in a colorful pair.

On Monday, Bush's spokesman, Jim McGrath, <a id="83e6f0c9-30f2-3d37-ae1e-1662f9a9112a" href="https://twitter.com/jgm41/status/1069589249966645248"> tweeted </a> a picture of the socks and tie that the president will be laid to rest in.

While the tie is a conservative red number, the socks are more typical of Bush's style. They show a fleet of airplanes flying in the sky, a tribute to Bush's World War II service as a naval aviator.

"The 41st President will be carried to his final rest wearing socks that pay tribute to his lifetime of service, starting as an 18 year-old naval aviator in war. That legacy is now being carried, in part, by the brave, selfless men and women aboard @CVN77_GHWB. #Remembering41," McGrath tweeted.

The president's casket departed Houston Monday morning to be taken to Washington, D.C., where he will lie in state in the US Capitol through Wednesday.

On Wednesday, a memorial service will be held for Bush at the National Cathedral, where sitting President Donald Trump will be in attendance. Following that service, Bush's body will be taken back to Texas for another service, followed by his interment at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas.

He will be buried next to his daughter Robin, who died from cancer as a toddler in 1953, and wife Barbara, who passed in April.

Bush wore a pair of book-themed socks to his wife's funeral in the spring, to honor her work to improve to literacy.

George H.W. Bush, famous for his quirky socks, will be buried in a pair that commemorate his World War II service

Michelle Obama is taking time off her busy book tour to show her support for the Bush family.

On Monday, the former first lady <a href="https://twitter.com/MichelleObama/status/1069237738052993024" id="9a82f90b-c5d8-3f0f-a04b-d773e3bf73e8"> tweeted </a> that she would be cancelling planned stops in Paris and Berlin on December 5 and 6 to attend the funeral of President George H.W. Bush.

"It's important to me to join the Bush family in celebrating President George H.W. Bush's exemplary life," Obama tweeted Sunday morning. "This will unfortunately preclude my visits to Paris and Berlin. I've been deeply touched by the enthusiasm for my memoir, and I'm working to reschedule my trip for next year."

She continued: "I hope readers and ticket holders will understand my decision regarding my desire to attend President Bush's funeral, and join me in paying tribute to him and his tremendous contributions to our world."

Whenever a president dies, all current and living presidents typically attend the funeral, as well as their partners.

A Washington, D.C. memorial service will be held in Bush's honor on Wednesday, and President Donald Trump is expected to be in attendance.

On Thursday, Bush's body will be interred at the George H.W. Bush Presidential Library in College Station, Texas, next to his wife and daughter.

Obama will continue on with her book tour next week, starting with an appearance in Detroit, Michigan on December 11.

Michelle Obama is cancelling her book tour stops in Paris and Berlin to attend President George H.W. Bush's funeral

President Trump compared the Russian investigation to the McCarthy hearings on Wednesday morning.

Just before 9 a.m., the president tweeted that "at least 3 major players are intimating that the Angry Mueller Gang of Dems is viciously telling witnesses to lie about facts &amp; they will get relief. This is our Joseph McCarthy Era!"

The president could be referencing the recent news involving Paul Manafort, his former campaign chairman, who struck a plea deal to cooperate with the special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election interference in exchange for a shorter prison sentence.

It's unclear exactly who he's referring to, and Trump didn't specify who the "3 major players" were who intimated this allegation.

By comparing Mueller to McCarthy, Trump accuses the special counsel of orchestrating a witch hunt when it comes to the Russia investigation.

Mueller's probe is looking into whether the Trump campaign violated American law by conspiring with the Russian government to help win the 2016 presidential election, and Trump's attacks on the legitimacy of the investigation have ramped up of late.

Joseph McCarthy was a senator from Wisconsin who held a set of hearings in the mid-1950s to out what he believed was a Communist conspiracy in the US. There was no such socialist plot, but the hearings raged on and many were jailed because McCarthy intimidated witnesses to out one another in exchange for shorter prison sentences.

This isn't the first time that Trump has compared the Russia investigation to the McCarthy era.

In August, he tweeted to his followers to "study the late Joseph McCarthy, because we are now in [a] period with Mueller and his gang that make Joseph McCarthy look like a baby. Rigged Witch Hunt!"

After Trump sent the McCarthy tweet Wednesday morning, he went on a spree <a id="990f9fcf-17dd-3d61-a80f-a6dde93d2114" href="https://twitter.com/dbongino/status/1057074872118140930"> retweeting </a> disparaging videos, comments, and memes about his 2016 Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, General Motors, and "criminal illegals".
