Fulani herdsmen urged to embrace formal education

Nigeria's nomad community have been urged to embrace formal education which would empower them to contribute better to the nation's development.

The Chairman of Hausa/Fulani socio-cultural group, Alhaji Muhammad Koli, made the call when he was sworn into the leadership of the group alongside 26 other executives.

According to him, Fulani herdsmen have a lot to gain by combining formal education with their business will enable them to contribute to Nigeria's socio-economic development.

"...Fulani with their business can also excel when they combine it with formal education," Koli said.

He noted that the socio-cultural group was formed "to have peaceful co-existence between the Hausa/Fulani and Nigerians for the socio-economic development of the nation.

“To educate, enlighten and encourage the members to be self-reliant and help one another."

Koli and the new executives will oversee the affairs of the group for a four-year term.
