According to CLDA, the "Teachers Licensing System will bring on board true teachers who have the passion and diverse teaching skills to teach diverse students in the general classroom."

Newly trained teachers are to be charged GH¢150 whiles those in the service will pay GH¢200 for licensing exam.

The move is to enforce discipline and eliminate non-performing teachers from the system, in accordance with the new Teachers Licensing Policy under the Education Act 778 (2008).

Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Rev. Jonathan Bettey said the move is part of the sector’s professional development and it applies to both trainee teachers graduating from public and private teacher training colleges.

However, the National Association of Graduate Teachers [NAGRAT] has kicked against the introduction of a licensing examination for graduates of Colleges of Education.

But the Center for Learning Disabilities Assessment has hailed the government for proposing the implementation of the policy.

CLDA reiterated that the education system "does not support students with learning disabilities, attention deficit and behavior disorder enough, the high rate of students non-performance’, adding that ‘students drop out and discrimination against students with diverse need in the general classroom is contributed by indiscipline, unprofessional and non-performing teachers."
