Moses on Wednesday, August 15 took to his social media to announce his decision to quit the Nigerian national teamto focus on his club career and family.

As he retires from the Super Eagles, we take a look at his top five moments in national colours.

1. Nigeria 6 Vs 1 Liberia (2013 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers)

After earning rave reviews in England, Moses came into the Super Eagles with a huge reputation and he showed it off in a second round 2013 AFCON qualifier against Liberia in October 2012.

Nigeria needed to win after a 2-2 draw away in Liberia and it was Moses who stepped up at the U. J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

He netted two goals in the game, grabbed an assist and also drew a foul which was a penalty to Nigeria. He was the penalty taker in the team but he left the penalty to his then club teammate Mikel John Obi.

2. Nigeria 2 Vs Ethiopia 0 (AFCON 2013)

The Super Eagles were making heavy weather of 2013 AFCON before Moses stepped up to deliver for Nigeria, dragging them into the knockout stages from where they went on to win the title.

After two consecutive 1-1 draws against Burkina Faso and Zambia, the Super Eagles needed a win to progress to the quarter-final.

But the Super Eagles were dire on the day and in need of a spark it was the brilliance from Moses that brought life to the late Stephen Keshi team.

Years before his slick feet were stifled by the defensive requirement of Antonio Conte, Moses from the left was a livewire for the Super Eagles, probing and asking questions of the Ethiopian defence.

It was his trickery that won the Super Eagles two penalties from which he scored from to get all the three points for Nigeria.

3. Nigeria 4 Vs Mali 1 (AFCON 2013)

Many expected Mali to tough opponents for the Super Eagles in the semifinal clash of AFCON 2013,  but Moses destroyed them without breaking a sweat.

The forward was breathtaking from the wing, tearing the Malian defence into shreds. For Nigeria’s first goal of the game, he turned a defender twice before crossing for Elderson Echiéjilé to head in for the opener.

By the time he broke away in midfield to play in Emmanuel Emenike who crossed for Brown Ideye to score in the 30th minute, the game was already won.

4. Winning AFCON 2013

Moses’ impressive displays at AFCON 2013 were deservedly crowned with the title which is the high point of his Super Eagles career.

It was a title that redeemed his decision to switch his allegiance to Nigeria after representing his adoptive country England in the youth levels.

5. Nigeria 3 Vs 1 Algeria (2018 World Cup qualifier)

After grabbing an impressive 2-1 win away at Zambia to kick off their 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier in a winning fashion, the Super Eagles continued their fine campaign with a 3-1 home win over Algeria.

It was a Victor Moses show as they forward netted a brace for the Super Eagles in Uyo. It was his first game for the Super Eagles in the qualifiers and he went on to be Nigeria’s best player of the campaign.
