Ghana edged New Zealand 2-0 to topple them in group A of the 2018 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Uruguay.

Both Ghana and New Zealand had qualified for the quarter finals of the competition heading into the final group A clash, so the game was to determine which team finish top of the group and the West Africans made their quality count on the day.

Two second half goals from the skipper of Ghana Mukarama Abdulai were enough to inspire the Black maidens to a 2-0 win.

The first half ended goalless, despite Ghana creating several goal scoring opportunities- Animah’s shot was saved by the New Zealand goalie, while Mukarama was also denied.

Back from recess Ghana continued to dictate the pace of the game and their persistence paid off when Mukarama scored a beauty after she had received a long pass from the Ghanaian defence to register the opener.

And she put the icing on the cake after a defensive blunder by the New Zealand found a Ghanaian and she located Mukarama Abdulai who dribble pass his marker and slotted the ball home in a superb manner.

Ghana made 31 goal attempts, with nine shots going on target.
