Ronaldo, Messi make UEFA's top 50 players Team of the Year

As expected, Juventus star player Cristiano Ronaldo is leading the way with 12 nominations in the line-up.

European football governing body UEFA have named 50 players in the legendary all-time Team of the Year.

The nominees includes Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and others who will be vying for places in the line-up, which will be decided by fans on UEFA's website.

But together with the 50 names listed, UEFA will also be launching their Ultimate Team of the Year of all time.

Eleven players made up of those who have been shortlisted in the Team of the Year have the most times nominations since its inception in 2001.

Lionel Messi has been named in the squad nine times while his rival Ronaldo has been nominated in the last 11 seasons.

Ronaldo and Messi will add to their tally this year with the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Antoine Griezmann and Mohamed Sallah are also up in the running.

Thierry Henry and Liverpool icon Steven Gerrard were also included as well as midfield generals, Xavi Hernandez and Andreas Iniesta.

The former England captain had three nominations - the same as French legend Zinedine Zidane, Toni Kroos among others.

Spanish quartet, Sergio Ramos, Gerard Pique, Carles Puyol and goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who were influential in their country's domination between 2008 and 2012 are still present.

The legendary World Cup winner with Germany Phillipp Lahm was also not been left out.
