Azumah’s Alphon Zu FC wins the Betway Stephen Appiah Cup

The football gala, which was organized by leading online sports betting company Betway Ghana, saw 8 teams from Chorkor, James Town and its environs competing for cash prizes, bragging rights and other souvenirs.

Alphon Zu FC has emerged as winners of the Betway Stephen Appiah Cup held on 10th March 2018 at Chorkor.

The football gala, which was organized by leading online sports betting company Betway Ghana, saw eight (8) teams from Chorkor, James Town and its environs competing for cash prizes, bragging rights and other souvenirs.

After a heated final with Nii Ona Ni Ona FC, Alphon Zu FC walked away as winners with a cash prize of GHC 2,500 and the event trophy while second and third place teams Nii Ona Ni Ona FC and Extra O United walked away with cash prizes.

The Betway Stephen Appiah Cup held this weekend was the first ever tournament organized by a brand in honour of the Ghanaian football legend.

Many fans and admirers of the former Black Stars Captain turning out to showcase their support and admiration.

An elated Stephen Appiah commented on how he had started his football career playing on the same pitches in the Chorkor community.

He highlighted how his recently announced collaboration with Betway was geared towards the continuous development of sports in Ghana and provision of opportunities for both players on the Betway platform and aspiring footballers through activities like the Betway Talent Search.

Since the commencement of operations in Ghana, Betway has been heavily involved in the development of sports in the country.

Prior to their announcement of Stephen Appiah as their brand ambassador, Ghana’s leading sports betting brand had announced the simultaneous sponsorship of four Ghana Premier League clubs – a first in the League’s history.

They had also successfully completed other football development campaigns like the 2017 Betway Talent Search initiative, tertiary football league support and Thought Leadership programs amongst others.
