Zimbabwe coach Callisto Pasuwa is a proud man after his country put up a widely praised performance against highly rated Algeria in the opening game of Group B at this year's Africa Cup of Nations.

Goals from Kudakwashe Mahachi and Nyasha Mushekwi helped the The Warriors force a 2-2 draw out of The Fennecs at the Stade de Franceville.

"When I was asked who was the favourite and said Zimbabwe, everyone laughed at me, but in this group there is no small team," Pasuwa, who is one of four African coaches at the tournament, said.

Zimbabwe, who are making their third AFCON appearance (and their first in 11 years) will face Senegal in their second group game on Thursday January 19.

"I hope the point obtained here will motivate my players to do even better in our next match against Senegal," the former Dynamos FC coach added.

Senegal won the other Group B opener 2-0 against Tunisia.
