"My vision for Ghana is of an optimistic, self-confident and prosperous nation with a strong and thriving democratic society in which mutual trust and economic opportunities exist for all, irrespective of their background," Nana Addo said at the launch.

The flagbearer of the New Patriotic party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has launched the 2016 manifesto of the party.

Speaking at the launch, Nana Addo outlined his visions for the country if voted into power.

"My vision for Ghana is of an optimistic, self-confident and prosperous nation with a strong and thriving democratic society in which mutual trust and economic opportunities exist for all, irrespective of their background," he said.

According to him, it is sad the poor state the country finds itself, adding that Ghanaians deserve better.

On his part, the chairman of the event, former President John Agyekum Kufuor said the New Patriotic Party is ready to take over power and steer government to the heights of development as the party once did under his tenure.

Mr Kufuor said his government under the New Patriotic Party was able to achieve middle-income status for the country “because it is in our party's DNA.”

He said nowhere has poverty been alleviated by impoverishing the people, adding “We can only alleviate poverty by creating wealth. We must never shy away from wealth creation.”

On the economy

The running mate of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, outlined the economic vision of the future NPP government if voted into power in the December 7 polls.

He chastised government for suggesting that International Credit rating agency, Moody’s recent ratings show an upgrade in the country’s economy.

“Moody's did not upgrade Ghana's rating, the rating is still B-, it's only the outlook that's been revised,” Dr Bawumia said.

Science and Technology

Prof Frimpong Boateng, a heart surgeon promised that the party will transform the technological base of the country. He, however, cut short his presentation and went off the stage after appearing dehydrated.

Unemployment

Former Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanten announced the setting up of an Industrial Development Fund, to support critical private sector industrial initiatives, as one of the means to tackling the rising unemployment levels.
