Mahama in a comfortable lead - NDC counters NPP

The NDC said the NPP's declaration that it is leading by 54 percent is irresponsible and designed to cause chaos.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has condemned the New Patriotic Party for declaring themselves as victors in the 2016.

At a press conference addressed by the party's director of elections, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, the NDC said president John Mahama is in a comfortable lead.

The NDC as a law abiding citizen will not declare its figures, Mr Ampofo said.

The NPP earlier declared itself victors in the 2016 elections, urging president John Mahama to concede defeat.

At a hurriedly addressed press conference at the NPP headquarters, the national campaign chairman, Peter Mac Manu said after tabulating 80 percent of polling station results, the NPP was ahead with 4.6 million votes (54.91 percent) and President Mahama with 43.38 percent (3.6 million).

But Mr Ampofo said the press conference by the NPP is a "demonstration of npp’s resort to act that threatened the peace and security of the country."
