2016 BECE candidates the best so far - GES

Some candidates in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) have made history with their exceptional performance in raw scores.

The total raw scores by the West African Examination Council (WAEC) is 600, making this year’s performance historic, he said.

He argued that there was the possibility of a keen contest for placements in the well-endowed schools because of the student’s performance.

A total of 461,013 candidates wrote this year’s BECE at 1,598 centres.

Candidates were from a total of 14,267 schools and the examination was administered at 1,598 centres.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Education Service (GES) has said this year's computerised school placement system has so far been devoid of hitches with 95 percent of graduates posted.

The computerised school placement system is used to place qualified Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) graduates into their preferred secondary school.

Each BECE candidate was allowed to choose four schools of his or her choice for posting.

Public Relations Officer of GES Rev. Jonathan Bettey said so far no negative report has come from parents or students.
