Research shows that since September 11, the number of Non-Muslims that have read the Quran in the English interpretation have increased.

Ghanaian Muslim activist, Sheikh Bagnya, cited 2011 research from the USA which said there was an increase in white Americans converting to Islam after 9/11, in Ohio.

Referring to the research, Bagnya noted that the number increased because these people have come to the understanding of what the Quran is saying that will lead people to commit violence, suicides, and  killings, “as a matter of fact, it has opened the door for people to read and have a better understanding about Islam," he commented.

"Non- Muslims after reading the Quran have come to the understanding that these things have nothing in relation to Islam but it’s just people either for political reasons or entrenched intent that people would want to pursue”, Sheikh emphasized.

Sheikh Bagnya mentioned that violence across the world whether with Christians or Muslims has been committed under the influence of religion.

“One time it’s Muslims, other times it’s Christians and an example is the Irish Republic Army had some people in Uganda calling themselves law resistance Army labeled under Christianity in Northern Ireland and  killing catholic protestants during a crusade all in the name of religion where Muslims were killed by Christians. And the unfortunate thing is it happened under the name of religion."

But he advised “we must begin to understand that our religion both Christian and Muslims are far away from terror and people should desist from killing, destroying and harming people”

Meanwhile More than 16,000 people have been killed through terror attacks by Boko Haram and some 2.5 million others to flee their homes.

The terror group has pledged allegiance to ISIS, who are mainly wreaking havoc in Syria and Iraq.

A spokesperson for the  US Embassy in Ghana told Pulse Ghana they "do not anticipate a change in our security posture here in Ghana."
