Former President, Jerry John Rawlings has bemoaned the upsurge of ‘false prophets’ in the country.
According to him, these so-called ‘pastors’ with their false teachings and prophecies have brought Christianity into disrepute.
Mr. Rawlings expressed these sentiments at a durbar to mark the annual Amu (Brown Rice) festival by the chiefs and people of Avatime Gbadzeme in the Volta region over the weekend.
The former president criticized the media houses who sell-off “precious airtime” to such ‘fake prophets’ to ply their trade.

He cited the leader of the God’s Way International Ministry, Bishop Daniel Obinim and leader of the Heaven Gate Ministries, Prophet Nicholas Osei popularly known as Kumchacha (below) as some of the fake men of God who are exploiting “ignorant people” to enrich themselves.
Mr. Rawlings said under the guise of helping people with spiritual protection, they sell ‘anointed’ oil and water at exorbitant prices while leading their flocks astray.
He blamed the phenomenon on authorities in charge who have turned a blind eye and deaf ear to the excesses of these so-called men of God.
“We are paying a serious price for it and we will continue to do so until we wake up to the reality of what is scientifically possible, plausible and doable” he stressed.
Mr. Rawlings called for urgent action to be taken to avert God’s wrath on Ghana.
