The Minister-designate for Railway Development, Joe Ghartey, has revealed plans by the Nana Addo-led government to introduce light trains within the cities in the country.
He was speaking when he was vetted by the Appointments Committee of Parliament on Thursday (February 2, 2017).
Ghartey explained that the light trains or trams will be able facilitate movement within the city.

He said the NPP government plans to revamp the railway sector to transform the economy.
He further added that investors have expressed interest in the country’s railway industry.

He said that some investors have hinted that , they may want to fabricate some parts of railway lines here in Ghana to export to Nigeria.
“There is a group that has approached us who want to do the waggons in Ghana and export it to Nigeria. We have to try and get the waggons done in Ghana. If they can do it. They want to do it in a location in my constituency, if they can do it, it will make me a very happy person quite apart from the fact that it is in my sector,” he said.
