Some residents of Sabon Zongo, a suburb of Accra have been intimidating and harassing the family of a suspected gay, Shafiq Ibrahim, crying for his blood following news that his alleged gay partner, Abubakar Sadick had died on their journey of escape abroad.
Shafiq whose wife and four kids as well as his parents still live in the community, run away together with Abubakar somewhere around September last year when they were allegedly caught red-handed kissing, fondling and romancing each other in his matrimonial home in the absence of his family.
In the ensuing melee, the two accused homosexuals managed to escape the irate crowd desperate to beat them up and absconded the community, with many suspecting they may have been hiding somewhere around Tamale in Northern Region.
News however spread through the neighborhood recently about the apparent death of Abubakar on their way to the US. It said that the two indeed first escaped to Tamale but gathered enough money to contract a travel agent who secured Brazilian visas, with which they travelled to the South American country in November 2023.
The two 'lovers' apparently didn't want to stay in Brazil however and embarked on a month-long journey by road through 9 countries before entering the United States of America through Mexico in December 2023.Abubakar however couldn't survive the stress of the long journey and lost his life on the way, in the Darien Gap in Panama.
Somebody who was also on the same trip and knew the two, it was who managed to send the information about Abubakar's demise to his family some months later. The same source also confirmed that Shafiq Ibrahim now lives in the US, has a job and working on his papers.
Angered by the news, Abubakar's family and the neighbours rekindled their cry for the blood of Shafiq and start creating trouble for his parents as well as wife and kids, intimidating and threatening their lives. Some believe Shafiq has been sending money to his family and parents so they know where he is and must produce him to face their wrath.
Fearing for the lives of her family, Shafiq's mother, Madam Alimatu Abdul Rahman lodged a complaint at the Korle-Bu Police Station on 16 December seeking protection, it has been confirmed.
