Uganda stunned high flying Egypt senior national football team by a goal to nothing in Kampala on Thursday in the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

The hosts made their intention clear right from the blast of the referee's whistle by dictating play and created numerous chances in the first half-  the likes Farouk Miya, Joseph Ochaya came close to scoring but they had their balls saved by goalkeeper Hadary for Egypt and Uganda also wasted some of the opportunities.

Egypt were off in the first half, but managed to clear their lines well.

Uganda after the interval continued to press for the opener by putting incessant pressure on the North Africans.

In one of those moves a pass was sent to Emmanuel Okwi and he dribbled past two players before he fired it home through the arms of El Hadary to break the dead lock.

Egypt woke up from their slumber and also began to push for a goal. Mohammed Salah should have registered the equaliser, but he had his effort thwarted by Dennis Onyongo in post for Uganda.

The win for Uganda has given Ghana a big sigh of relief since it has made the group E of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers of Africa very open- Uganda are on seven points, with Egypt on six points and should Ghana win on Friday they will go to six points with three games remaining
