If you've been on social media at all over the past day (which you def have been), then you might be wondering why the name Olivia Jade is suddenly blowing up your newsfeed.
Here's the tea: Olivia Jade is the daughter of Lori Laughlin (a.k.a. Aunt Becky on Full House) and Mossimo Giannulli, who reportedly paid close to $500,000 in the form of a bribe to get Olivia Jade and her older sister into the University of Southern California.
Oh, and the scandal gets worse: Olivia's parents had her designated as a recruit for the USC crew team, despite the fact that Olivia did not participate in crew. Loughlin and Giannulli arranged a photoshoot for their daughter, which included a "photograph of [Olivia] on an ergometer," according to court documents . Yikes.
While many people may be learning about Olivia Jade for the very first time, she's been in the limelight for quite some time as an influencer, vlogger, and fashion designer. Here's everything you need to know about Olivia Jade (so far):
Olivia Jade has more than 1 million followers on Instagram.
View this post on Instagram Officially a college student! Its been a few weeks since I moved into my dorm and I absolutely love it. I got everything I needed from Amazon with @primestudent and had it all shipped to me in just two-days. #ad #primestudent #allonamazon A post shared by OLIVIA JADE (@oliviajade) on Sep 17, 2018 at 2:42pm PDT
Girlfriend's got 1.3 million followers (expect that to grow), and she's used that to her advantage, partnering with brands on Insta posts that surely pay her a pretty penny.
In September 2018, Olivia showed off her dorm room digs in an Instagram post, complete with a caption announcing that she was officially a college student. The post was sponsored by none other than Amazon, from which Olivia received all her dorm room decor.
And it's not just Instagram-close to 2 million people subscribe to her YouTube channel.
Olivia is a vlogger who has posted more than 300 videos on her YouTube channel, Olivia Jade . Videos include makeup tutorials (she doesn't wear foundation, fyi) and outfit try-ons. There's even one where she teaches her mom and John Stamos some hip, new lingo (it's pretty cute, tbh).
Olivia has her own collection at Sephora.
Her makeup tutorials have been so successful that Olivia collaborated with Sephora on a bronzer and highlighter palate. Olivia's love for makeup started at a young age, when she would watch her mom get her makeup done. "I think ever since I was young, my mom had her makeup professionally done for events, so I would always watch makeup artists kind of sculpt her face a little bit," she told People in 2017.
And an exclusive fashion line.
Aunt Becky's mini me also has a partnership with the fashion brand Princess Polly . She serves as the model of the collection, which includes crop tops, denim jackets, and jeans.
Olivia doesn't seem to care about school.
Here's the ultimate plot twist of this very incredulous drama: Despite having parents that dropped close to half a million to get her into USC, Olivia isn't the biggest fan of academia. In a 2018 YouTube video , Olivia told her subscribers, "I dont know how much of school Im gonna attend... I do want the experience of like game days, partying I dont really care about school, as you guys all know."
She later issued an apology video (perhaps strongly suggested by her parents?), entitled " im sorry ," which was filmed from her bed after she just woke up. "A lot of people like to attack me for the way Ive grown up because its really different from a lot of people, and so anything I say thats remotely ignorant or bratty or something that I genuinely don't mean, it gets so much backlash," she said in the video.
She's become the target of backlash on social media.
According to the court documents on Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, there's no indication that Olivia Jade (or her older sister, who also got in USC as part of the scandal) were in on their parents' college admissions scheme. Despite that, social media users have been dragging Olivia Jade in the comments section of her Instagram . So while her online following will most likely grow in the wake of this scandal, it's probably not the way she imagined.
