The story follows aspiring music journalist Jenny (played by Gina, obvs), who just landed her dream job in San Francisco-2,572 miles from her current life in New York City. Rather than try to do long distance, her boyfriend of nine years (Lakeith Stanfield) decides their ship has sailed.
So, to bounce back from heartbreak, Jenny and her best friends Erin (DeWanda Wise) and Blair (Brittany Snow) wind up for one final wild, catastrophic-seeming adventure in New York.
The trailer, which features jams from singing queen Lizzo (thank you, movie soundtrack gods), foreshadows a movie packed with ridiculousness, outrageous one-liners, and an all-around killer cast. The new flick comes from the executive producers of Bridesmaids, so at the very least, you know it'll be hysterical.
And besides, anything (and tbh, everything) involving Gina is worth a watch. In 2018, she decided to use her Emmy For Your Consideration (FYC) money to send an undocumented high school student to college at Princeton University, per the Hollywood Reporter. Considering FYC money is traditionally spent on getting glammed up for promotional events, the move was particularly beautiful.
Someone Great hits Netflix on April 19, which, okay, feels far away, but it'll be here before you know it. In the meantime, if you're itching for a rom-com, Netflix just added The Notebook to its roster. That should do the trick.
