The Crave Vesper Is The Most Fashionable Vibrator You Can Own

While you probably think of sex toys as something you hide away in a drawer when you're not using them, they don't need to be. Way back in 2014, the Crave Vesper-a vibrator that doubles as a necklace, seen around the necks of famed sexologist and Janet Jackson alike-had a serious moment when it first launched. People went nuts: A vibrator that you can wear in public around your neck? No. Wa...

But that wearability is precisely why Kristen Tribby, director of marketing and education at Fun Factory (a company that makes playful sex toys like and ), thinks the Vesper is still worth adding to your sex toy collection. "Were not lacking great products in this industry," she says. "Were lacking people who stand up and say 'Hey, I use sex toys, and its a very healthy part of life.'" (**snaps**)

After all, nothing shouts "I love sex toys!" better than wearing one around your neck for all your friends, neighbors, coworkers, and dates to see. "This is about wearing your orgasm as a fashion statement," Tribby adds.

But can a vibrator that doubles as a statement necklace actually get you off?

Why People Love The Crave Vesper

 • Its both a necklace and a vibrator
 • It can be hands-free
 • Its small (so you get REALLY pinpointed vibrations)

Plenty of other companies have attempted to make vibrators that could also be worn as jewelry, so whats so special about the Vesper? "You usually end up with a novelty item that doesnt actually work as a vibrator," says Tribby. "With Vesper, I wouldnt say its the best vibrator around, but it allows you to create this foreplay experience with your partner by wearing it out." And when you get home, the necklace really does work as a vibrator.

As Tribby says, the Vesper isnt exactly going to register on the Richter scale, like some other OMG-worthy vibrators on store shelves (for that you want a more ). But, the vibration isnt exactly a flutter, either-its definitely solid enough to get you off, especially if you use it right.

In order to look like a necklace chic enough to hit the red carpet, Crave had to make the Vesper small. And that works out well for anyone who likes targeted vibration against their clit, nipples, or wherever else. Other toys have a much broader surface area, Tribby says, but the Vesper is so tiny that you can pinpoint the vibration exactly where you want it.

The fact that the toy hangs on a chain around your neck also gives you the opportunity to get a little more ~creative~. That means hands-free fun time. "Keep it around your neck, and let it fall onto different body parts of your partners body as you move," says Tribby. Imagine trailing a vibrating necklace over your partners body as you move from their head to their...um, other head.

But absolutely the best part about the Vesper, Tribby explains, is the fact that you can wear it out on a date and transform foreplay from a 15-minute romp right before the main event into an all-night-long sensual extravaganza. "Youre probably not able to bring your butt plug with you out to dinner, but this allows you to be discreet," says Tribby.

Where It Falls Flat

 • It doesnt have a super strong vibration
 • Its small
 • It can be difficult to use (and it doesnt lock)

As Tribby mentioned, the Vesper is not the toy you want if youre looking for a super strong vibration-so its probably not great for sex toy newbies. If youre trying to start a collection, you want a toy with a rumbly motor (like the We-Vibe Nova ), Tribby says. Thats just not possible for the Vesper, given its size. "But, the Vesper has the best motor quality they could probably do in that shape and size," she notes. Translation: The toy will still get the job done.

Part of the problem, of course, is that Crave had to make the Vesper so small. Thats a plus if you like vibration on your clit and nowhere else. But if you need to feel the tingles in larger portions of your vulva and/or penis (people with penises like vibrators, too!), then you're probably better off using a bigger vibe.

Another issue: the buttons. "For a toy like this, the ease of use is not really there yet," says Tribby. Because the Vesper is made to be discreet, it cant exactly have a huge power button. Instead, the toy has one button to turn it on and off, and to cycle through the vibrators four speeds and two patterns (pulsing and constant).

The simplicity of design potentially spells one more issue. "Theres no travel lock," says Tribby. "Id want to be able to lock the vibration, you know, just in case my server comes over to get my drink order and the vibrator starts going off."

And if you have an ample bosom, youll likely run into the same problem with the Vesper as you do other necklaces: It can easily get caught in your cleavage. (But could that also add to its sex appeal? Up to you.)

The Game-Changing Features

 • The material
 • The shape
 • The chain

"People in this industry tend to back away from stainless steel," says Tribby. Not the Vesper. The cheapest version of the toy ( $69 ) is stainless steel with a silver finish (the most expensive version, at $149 , has a stainless steel core and a 24K gold finish). It follows in the footsteps of uber-popular sex toys like the .

So, what makes stainless steel so great? For one, its super smooth, meaning itll easily glide over your or your partners body. Metals like stainless steel also hold temperature way better than the silicone that usually coats sex toys-and that opens your play time up for experimenting with hot and cold.

Just remember: The Vesper is "splashproof," not waterproof. So dont go dunking your vibrator/necklace into a glass of hot or cold water if you want to change the temp. Use your chest instead. "If your body is warm, the Vesper is going to be warm to the touch," says Tribby. That toasty 98.6 degrees (body temp) can make teasing your partner with the vibrator extra fun.

Although the size and shape of the Vesper can be considered a weakness, its also a strength. Since this toy was created to make a statement as an orgasmic piece of jewelry, it really does have the perfect shape. It looks like a necklace you could spend hundreds on in some cute boutique in Brooklyn.

The bottom line: Craves Vesper is a fun way to tease your partner while youre out on the town. But if youre hoping for a vibrator that packs a serious punch, this isnt the toy for you.
