Selma, who is 46, shared her MS diagnosis on Instagram in August. "I have #multiplesclerosis," she wrote. I am disabled. I fall sometimes. I drop things. My memory is foggy. And my left side is asking for directions from a broken gps. But we are doing it. And I laugh and I dont know exactly what I will do precisely but I will do my best.
Since then, Selma's been open about her struggles with the disease on Instagram, sharing photos of herself walking with a cane and posting about the " uncontrollable anxiety " that she suffers due to the disease.
Multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system that affects the way information flows between the brain and the body, according to the National MS Society . Common symptoms include difficulty walking, fatigue, numbness or tingling, weakness, pain, and depression.
Here's how Selma revealed her MS diagnosis:
Selma's preparation for the Oscars involved more than just her own hair and makeup-her cane got a makeover, too. She credited manicurist Tom Bachik for customizing her cane with her monogram and a pink diamond. "I wanted a special cane for #vanityfair dinner," she wrote. She said producer David Lyons found her some patent leather for her cane as well. "I burst into tears. These gifts to get me through," she wrote on Instagram. "There are angels. "

So... @lyon_hearted went out and found patent leather and @bic_owen and he stitched it on. Hours of love put in. And then #tombachick made it especially magical. I burst into tears. These gifts to get me through. #subtle #chic #love. I cant thank these three enough. There are angels. #oscars2019 A post shared by Selma Blair (@selmablair) on Feb 23, 2019 at 7:51am PST

Selma also busted out a few fierce red carpet poses.
People magazine noted that this was Selma's first public appearance using a cane since her diagnosis, though she's shared pictures of herself using the cane in her everyday life on Instagram.
