Lindsey Vonn Shares Gruesome LCL Surgery Photos

Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn revealed in an Instagram post Tuesday that she underwent knee surgery-and has the gruesome pics to prove it.

On Monday (April Fool's Day, no less), Lindsey shared an Instagram video of herself coming out of surgery. "Unfortunately this isn't an April fools post...but surgery went well and I'm now recovering at home," she wrote on a video of herself clearly still coming out of her anesthesia.

But it wasn't until Tuesday when Lindsey shared exactly what happened-first, with a disclaimer: "Warning if you don't like the sight of blood don't swipe right," she wrote. (Fair point, as the third picture in shows the doctors literally operating on her knee.) Lindsey went on to explain that she had surgery to repair her LCL (lateral collateral ligament).

A little background: Lindsey crashed while training in Colorado in November 2018. When that happened, she "completely tore [her] LCL." Lindsey, who announced the 2018-2019 season will be hear last in February, per the New York Times , said she waited a few months to have surgery because she "had obligations" and "didn't want to let anyone down."

But here's the thing: Because Lindsey waited so long to have surgery, she ran into other issues. "Unfortunately since I put off surgery I had more damage than expected," she wrote. "I had an additional meniscus tear and needed chondroplasty of my knee cap."

Lindsey went on to explain the full "medical terms" of what she had done during her knee surgery: "Lcl reconstruction, Lateral meniscectomy, chondroplasty and peroneal nerve neurolysis." Uh, damn, girl.

As far as her recovery goes, Lindsey shared in her Instagram Stories that she's still using her nerve blocker (an injection that helps block pain from specific nerves, used for pain relief or total loss of feeling for surgery, according to the Columbia University Department of Neurology ), but has already begun physical therapy (featuring her newly stitched-up knee) with Lindsey Winninger, her physical therapist.

Clearly, Lindsey's got quite the road ahead of her, but here's to wishing her the speediest recovery possible.
