The comedian, who quit drinking in 2002 after a drunken car wreck left him hospitalized, lost his two-and-a-half year old son, Henry, to a brain tumor in January 2018. He described the heartbreaking loss in a back in September, which he said he had shared to help the fellow parents of very sick children know someone understood and cared. He wrote again of his sons death in his social media post Monday, saying that it had been a brutal year for he and his family - and that it would have been far worse were he not sober.
Sobriety allowed me to be a reasonably good dad, husband, and worker through it all, he wrote. Sobriety allows me to grieve fully, and grief is an expression of love.
It was a tremendous accomplishment for the Deadpool 2 and Catastrophe star, and a powerful message that resonated with fans and fellow celebrities, who offered an outpouring of support for the comic, as well as some reflections of their own sobriety.
Love you Rob. And Henry couldnt have had a better dad for his way too short time here. - Bill Corbett (@BillCorbett) February 4, 2019
Thank you to everyone who has helped me, Delaney concluded. I cant do it alone.
