After the thrill of watching another skin blemish get gushed, many of Dr. Pimple Poppers 3.5 million viewers have then sat with the sinking thought of: How do I avoid developing one of things? In a new video from Harpers Bazaar , Sandra Lee, MD, the dermatological superstar and TLC host, went over the routine she uses to keep her own skin in prime condition. To answer your first question, yes, Lee pops her own pimples. Using a syringe. Do not attempt at home, she warns.
First, we learn that Lee is not really all that into skincare products, unlikely many dermatologists. I am always definitely aware of what I am putting on my skin, she says, but I am not crazy about it. I dont have a lot of steps in my regimen. This is particularly because her own skin type is dry and too much stuff might irritate it.
First in her succession of product applicationsafter a makeup removerare her own SLMD Cleansing Wipes . (Of course, Dr. Pimple Popper has her own branded products.) She says to dab; rubbing will irritate the skin and can cause a wrinkled look. (If you want options beyond Dr. Pimple Popper's products, try these dermatologist-recommended picks .)
She also uses a s alicylic acid cleanser (to get rid of excess oil and makeup) and a face cleanser (to hydrate) and then a hyaluronic acid serum to keep in moisture.
Lee gives a pro tip: Apply your deodorant at night. Youre putting it on when your sweat glands are the most dormant, so its going to be more effective.
Lee also uses Cerave healing ointments generously around her lips and eyes and applies a benzoyl peroxide spot treatment to destroy acne-causing bacteria. And she injects a cortisol steroid into her own ripe pimples.
She has access to this treatment because shes a dermatologist, but for average people in front of the mirror, waiting to get rid of that blackhead, Lee offers some advice.
If you squeeze a pimple when its too early, it will just get bigger and redder and more angrier and end up worse, she says. The ideal time to extract a pimple is when they are as close to the surface as they can be then, you can gently nick it.
