The benefits of quitting or cutting back on sugar are many, but what if you have a sweet tooth? Or you love chocolate?

Well, you can still indulge. Here's how to make homemade sugar-free chocolate.

You need:

About 50 grams of cocoabutter, available from health stores in Ghana

Recommended For You

¼ cup of cocoa powder, more if you want it darker

1/8 cup of honey, or a few drops of stevia

a pinch of salt

How to make it

Put your cocoabutter in a bowl.

Boil some water and put it in a bowl, now place your bowl of cocoabutter in that bowl of hot water. Ensure no water gets into the cocoabutter as that may spoil it.

It will slowly melt, once it does completely, it will be a liquid. Then you can add the cocoa powder, honey/stevia and salt.

Mix them all together, then put them into cupcake casings. This is a very rich chocolate, so you only want it to fill about 2 cm of the cup.

It will be very runny, soon to harden. Before it does, add your flavouring, about a teaspoon, and stir it through the cup.

Some ideas of flavouring:

Try cut up nuts and dates

A teaspoon of groundnut paste

A dash of hot sauce

Some grated ginger

Some dried coconut

Then, put your desserts in the freezer, they should harden in about 30 minutes.

It's best to store them in the freezer as they may melt easily in the Ghana heat.

With the cocoabutter they are pretty high in calories, but much better for you than commercial chocolate full of sugar!
