The Nigerian police Force’s IGP X squad has reportedly arrested Inspector Tom Edet of the Ihiagwa Division Police station at Nekede in Imo State over N120,000 extortion.
The police boss and two of his colleagues, Sergeant Bassey and Charity reportedly arrested a man from delta state and detained him because he could not afford the N400,000 they demanded from him.
The suspect’s family then contacted one Prince Emefiele Harrison who runs an NGO called Behind Bars Initiative.
Behind Bars Initiative saw the development as an opportunity to expose miscreants in the Nigerian police service, as they collaborated with some other police officers to set up Inspector Tom Edet and his colleagues.
Pretending to be family members of the suspect who had come to bail him, they gave the corrupt senior police officers marked N120,000 which they took without hesitation.

Yabaleftonline.ng reported that Sergeant Bassey and Charity are currently on the run after learning that their boss was arrested in relation to the booty they partook of.
In most countries including Ghana, it is criminal of police officers to take money from suspects before granting them bail, but the law has been breached flagrantly in Ghana by officers with impunity.
It is about time the hierarchy of Ghana’s police service began cracking the whip on its officers to alleviate extortion of ignorant suspects by corrupt officers.
