Zarko Udovicic, a former under-21 player for was threatened with a gun by fans of his own club, Novi Pazar, following an 85 minute penalty miss in a Serbian top-flight against Rad last week.
Novi Pazar lost the game 1-0 in the process and that stirred the fans’ reaction
revealed that two days after the miss, several men broke into the club’s dressing room at the clubs training ground, holding a gun to his face.
''Like every professional workman, each professional footballer is entitled to a safe working environment. It is up to the football and national authorities to provide such a safe environment.''
President of the Serbian professional footballers' association Nezavisnost, Mirko Poledica revealed that no action had been taken.
'Must we wait until some hooligan actually kills one of our players?' he said.
'What worries me is that there is no reaction from the football association. They remain quiet.
'They must do something to guarantee the safety of the players. But they don't. Next time a player could be murdered.'
