It’s been a year of a plethora of music videos spanning from all genres in the music industry.
Just like last year, this year has seen a number of creative, original, exceptional and outstanding masterpieces created by seasoned cinematographers.
From Joey B to MzVee, Ayat to Becca, classic music videos have made their way through the internet and on the screens.
Here, we share with you 10 classic music videos with superior concepts, outstanding editing style, great graphics and more.
Joey B - Stables feat. La Même Gang (Directed by David Duncan)
Talking of liberation and the zeal to conquer the rap fraternity, David Duncan had to create a stables-like visual to represent the picture Joey B was trying to create. And the result? A classic visual, which tackles every verse from each performer in “Stables”.
Edem - Hurricane feat. Jojo Abot, TeePhlow & Dark Suburb (Directed by Pascal Aka)
Not to hype Edem, the fact is, he has never gone wrong with his music videos. He will never stoop low to cheap concepts, and that’s exactly what he made Pascal Aka do with his hip-hop jam, titled “Hurricane”. The chilling visual captures the featured artistes' brands and represents their verses. It’s indeed a hurricane visual.
Sarkodie - Bibii Ba feat. LJ, Tulenkey, Frequency, Kofi Mole, ToyBoi, Yeyo, Amerado, 2Fyngers, OBkay, CJ Biggerman (Directed by Babs Direction)
It’s been a while since we saw a visual representation of hip-hop lyrics, and thanks to Babs Direction, we just had one.
From LJ’s terrific cosplay, Tulenkey’s exciting fog scene, Kofi Mole’s near-blasphemous display to Amerado’s deadly morgue scene, this video has enough reasons to be the best. Forget about the drone shots, angles, colour blends, cheats and overall graphics, this visual is the real deal.
Shatta Wale - Gringo (Directed by Sesan)
Despite years of harsh criticisms over his low-quality visuals, Shatta Wale has never been worried until this year. Haters dropped their jaws when he collaborated with Nigeria’s Sesan to create a beautiful story for the title track of his “Reign” album.
MzVee - Come and See My Moda feat. Yemi Alade (Directed by XBills Ebenezer)
Colours and thrilling choreography came to life when Lynx Entertainment’s MzVee and Nigeria’s Yemi Alade instructed men interested in them to “Come and See My Moda”. XBills Ebenezer, who is excellent in graphics executed an exceptional job.
Kirani Ayat - Guda (Directed by David Nicol-Sey)
One of the creative and genius artistes who have been underrated in the game is Kirani Ayat but this hasn’t limited his creative thinking. Talking about his rise to fame and how his struggle stories have inspired the young generation, Ayat and director David Nicol-Sey had to travel all the way to the North to get a perfect picture of the concept of the hip-hop jam. And the result? It was mind-blowing.
Akwaboah - Hye Me Bo (Directed by David Nicol-Sey)
Do you know why many people have failed to fall in love or give their all in all in relationships? Why don’t we consider mental health or talk about past experiences? And what if we all erase the bad experiences and promise to stick by our partners through the thick and thin? That’s the picture David Nicol-Sey created for Akwaboah’s reggae-highlife jam “Hye Me Bo” (meaning ‘promise me’).
Trigmatic – Where We Dey Go (Directed by Prince Dovlo)
It’s obvious that Trigmatic had to compromise on “Where We Dey Go” music video. But in the end, a brilliant piece of arts was achieved. In the absence of a big budget, Trig resorted to a complete abstract but managed to create a perfect picture that tells the story of the world Africans have created through greed, selfishness and corruption.
Fuse ODG - New African Girl feat. Kuami Eugene & KiDi (Directed by David Nicol-Sey)
The beautiful scenes of Akosombo, the vibrant natural colours and melanin came to play in Fuse ODG’s latest “New African Girl” featuring Kuami Eugene and KiDi. Directed by David Nicol-Sey, the classic visual features beautiful dark skin women from across Africa and pushes a self-love agenda.
Becca - Nana feat. Sarkodie (Directed by Director Abass)
Becca might not have the buzz in the speakers this year but pulled one of the creative visuals. “Nana” which features Sarkodie and directed by Zylofon Music’s Director Abass tells the story of royalty and the Ghanaian rich culture.
