Latest movie in franchise grosses $532.5 worldwide on opening weekend

"Furious 8" has become the highest grossing movies for opening weekend worldwide, snatching up the position from "Jurassic World."

"The Fate of the Furious," the latest movie in the "Fast and Furious" franchise, has grossed $532.5 million at the worldwide box office as the eighth installment.

The movie beat "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" ($528.9 million) for the all-time best global opening weekend.

According to Business Insider, the movie is also the best produced by its studio, Universal, beating the "Jurassic World" $525.5 million earned in 2015.

The movie reportedly took in $432.3 million at the international box office.

"The Fate of The Furious" trumps "Jurassic World" record of $316.6 million.

"Furious 8" took in a record-breaking $63.9 million on its opening day in China this weekend.

The movie went on to make $190 million in the country over the weekend making it the biggest opening ever for a Hollywood movie in the country.

The fact that the movie is released on 1,079 IMAX screens worldwide, the widest opening ever for a single film in IMAX history, was a big boost as well.

The final tally globally on IMAX screens alone was $31.1 million for April.
