EC, Religious leaders from DR Congo seek electoral advice from Mahama

Mahama said political leaders are made to sign peace agreement before elections.

A delegation of the Electoral Commission of DR Congo, led by its commissioner Nangaa Yobeluo Corneille and religious leaders have paid a courtesy call on former President John Mahama.

The delegation, which was made up of heads of various Christian and Muslim Organisations in DR Congo discussed with the former President how the DR Congo can ensure a peaceful environment before, during and after their elections.

Mahama was also consulted on how activities of various institutions and systems including the National Peace Council, political parties impacted on the electoral process of Ghana.

Mahama on his part said political leaders are made to sign peace agreement before elections.

He said "The religious leaders, traditional leaders and Civil Society Organizations make us sign a peace declaration and it is published in the newspapers, so that is an effective means of committing us [politicians] to a peaceful process."
