Referee Daniel Bennett has been axed from officials for the upcoming CAF Champions League games after Ghana filed a protest accusing him of biased officiating regarding their FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Uganda last week Saturday.

The renowned South African referee had been named to officiate the second leg CAF Champions League game between Al Ahly and Etoile du Sahel, but after Ghana reported him to FIFA for disallowing a clear goal scored against Uganda in Kampala, his appointment has been revoked.

Daniel Bennett has been replaced by his compatriot Vitor Gomes as the knight of the whistle in the all-North African semi-finals clash set for October 22 in Aexandria.

This is a quick response and Ghanaians would at least rejoice over the action taken by CAF, showing their displeasure over the seemingly poor refereeing by Bennett, who is one of Africa’s finest.

Ghana have filed a protest calling for a replay, but as it stands now it will not be necessary because Egypt have already booked qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup and even additional points to their accumulated points won’t enough gazump Egypt.

It would be recalled that FIFA slapped a life-time ban on Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey for awarding a penalty to South Africa in their 2-1 win against Senegal and have annulled the results and has therefore called for a replay.
