'Excellent progress' made on FPSO turret

In April, Tullow declared force majeure on two cargoes of Ghana's Jubilee crude oil after an issue on the Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility that exports the oil.

Excellent progress has been made with jubilee partners on the damaged turret bearing on FPSO Kwame Nkrumah, Chief Executive Officer of Tullow,  Aiden Heavy, has said.

"We have also made excellent progress on the long term solution to the turret issue, with the Jubilee Partners deciding that the optimum way forward is to spread moor the FPSO," Heavey said in the company’s trading and operational update report.

Although gas and oil production continued, it was under a revised operating and off-take procedures.

It was placed on "heading control" through the use of tugs which minimise vessel movement around the bearing.

Tullow said new operating procedures, including the use of a dynamically-positioned shuttle tanker (capacity of 250,000 barrels of oil) and a storage tanker (capacity of 1 million barrels of oil), are being implemented to assure safe production and off-take operations.
