The National Association of Graduate Teachers, NAGRAT has threatened to strike should government fail to pay their outstanding arrears within three weeks.
It said the government has failed to honour its commitment under an agreement it reached with the teachers in November last year to pay the arrears by June 2015.
NAGRAT claims at the said meeting, government agreed to pay the teachers their grant and salary arrears by the given deadline but to date, the government has not paid them.
“Why are you not paying and you are forcing us to stand up and fight before you pay. Why is government waiting for teachers to leave the classroom and then they would come back and insult us? What we are even hearing is that some people are charging some teachers money to get them the arrears. Why should I go and pay somebody for money that I have duly worked for and due me,” he said on TV3.
NAGRAT says it has served notice to the National Labour Commission to intervene otherwise his members should not be blamed when they begin the strike.
Meanwhile, Mr. Addai-Poku has called for an independent supervisory body over the operations of the West African Examination Council in view of the recurring exams leaks.
