Technical Universities to be converted back to polytechnics

The Secretary to the Technical Universities Teachers Association (TTAG) Mr Foster Owusu has said

He said the government intends to reverse the Universities back into Polytechnics.

According to him, polytechnics and universities were established for different purposes, and hence government must find ways to maximise the potentials of both.

Prior to the conversion of polytechnics into into technical universities, some educationists have rejected the decision to convert the institutions.

The Secretary to TTAG in an interview on Kumasi-based Abusua FM said "Government is planning to reverse these institutions into polytechnics and I believe it is one of the reasons they are delaying in composing governing councils."

So far eight polytechnics that satisfied the requirements have been upgraded into Technical Universities in 2016.

The are: Ho, Tamale, Cape Coast, Sunyani, Accra, Kumasi, Kofridua, and Takoradi polytechnics.
