The youth of Manya and Yilo Krobo in the Eastern Region have demonstrated against their chiefs over claims that they have failed to work for the development of the two communities.
Wearing red arm bands, the youth comprising both male and female proceeded through the -principal streets of the of the communities with police protection.

They said they chiefs have failed over the years to liaise with successive governments to bring development to the communities, hence the endemic poverty and underdevelopment.
They are scheduled to present their petition to the Municipal chief Executive, saying all appeals to the traditional leaders to intervene to give residents some respite have been frutile.
Leader of the youth, Noah Martey, told the media that one of the major problems confronting the people in the two communities is overbilling by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).
They claim that the outrageous electricity bills have plunged the residents into untold hardship.
Noah Martey said “We are doing demonstration against our chiefs – both Yilo and Manya – because of overbilling by the ECG. The chiefs are not helping matters by not fighting on our behalf to ensure that the bills are reduced.

“We will continue doing the demonstration until our issues are solved. We are presenting our petition to the Municipal Chief Executive of Mayna Krobo and Upper Manya Krobo respectively.”
The youth leader further indicated that until these issues are addressed, they will protest against the celebration of the upcoming Ngmayem festival this year.
